i really don't like taking pills so is it really necessary to take vitamins? I usually eat pretty healthy but I don't know if I am doing my body an injustice by not taking them. alot of times i wonder if vitamins and supplements are more hype than they are helpful. your thoughts???

I've read that with a low calorie diet, that people can be lacking in their vitamin intake. I take a daily multi vitamin and mineral and additional Vit D supplement. I see it as a supplement, to what i'm eating, not a replacement.
Another thing to consider is seeing your doctor and having blood work done. I know that I'm Vit D deficient, so i have to take extra. Most standard blood work looks at Vits D and B12, because many people are deficient in them.
Take a look at what you're eating and look at the nutritional value, if you think you're lacking a supplement won't hurt.0 -
With a well rounded diet it's completely unnecessary.0

I'm sure you are going to get a lot of differing viewpoints on the merits of taking supplements. But i think nearly everyone agrees that with today's fast-paced world, eating out often, eating processed food and not nearly enough fresh fruits and vegetables, that taking at least a daily multi-vitamin really is not a bad idea. Having said that, its possible that if you had the time to prepare everything fresh and shopped nearly everyday, that you would not need nearly as much help, but there's still environmental worries, nutrient depleted soils that crops are grown in and lots of other concerns that for me make it easy to say yes to a sensible regime of daily supplements.
I realize there are a lot of people that will say you don't need them. For them, its a waste of money. Ok, it's their right to believe that. But for me, it's a part of the whole better living/holistic method of taking care of ones self, before the doctors have to ;-)0
