Green tea drinkers...why does my green tea have a nasty fishy taste?? I only steep it for 5 mins or so. I have tried different brands (store bought). I am afraid to spend a ton of money because I don't want it to go to waste with the nasty taste!!
Help?!?

  • I've had this problem before as well. Simple solution: I put the tea bag in the cup, pour the hot water over it, stir it three times and then take the tea bag out. You don't have to steep it for a long time, because that can make the taste stronger, and usually it takes a while before you can start building up to stronger green teas. I use a brand called Red Seal, but I don't know if it's available outside of New Zealand.

    I hope this helps :)

I will give that a try, thanks! I adore hot tea of all sorts but I have never been able to get this one and I want to because I know it is so good for you. Do you get as much benefits from the antioxidents this way?

only steep for a few minutes, DONT use boiling water- use almost boiling water.

The BEST green tea ever: Stash brand Moroccan mint. I get it in CA at target or at the local healthfood store. its aaa-mazing. no "green tea farm taste"

I buy the Kirkland brand (from Costco). I have never enjoyed Green Tea prior to trying this brand. The package also indicates to only steep for 30 seconds. So you could try steeping it for a shorter time. Good luck!

Unfortunately I can't do mint teas because they wreak havoc on my reflux :( But it sounds LOVELY! I loved peppermint tea when I could drink it. I will try steeping it for much less time. Thank you for the advice! I never thought to steep it less.

I had only bought the Lipton, Celestial and Twinings brands.
