Hi just wondered if anyone knows if flavoured water is just as good for you as tap water?? I don't like tap water but have read on here so many times that you need to drink lots of water. At the moment I only ever drink tea (no sugar, skimmed milk) but I get through way too many cups a day. Was hoping to replace with flavoured water maybe. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I was finding myself drinking lots of flavored water and tea instead of just plain water. I knew that I needed to get some plain water worked into my diet, so I said for every flavored drink/tea, I have to drink a glass of regular water to equal it out. Eventually I started to get used to the regular water and I didn't need the flavorings anymore.

You could try and do something like that to work regular water into your diet.
  • I put lemon or lime juice into my water sometimes. If you are going to choose a flavored water, just make sure it is zero-everything, like plain water is.
  • If your bored with your tea, switch it up a bit and have cups of green tea. I know that Twinings do many different variations of green tea and I LOVE their ginger green tea it's lovely :) They also do fruit green teas such as mango and cranberry.
  • Thanks guys. Will give the suggestions a try. I was finding I was using over 100 calories a day because of tea (the milk in it). Appreciate your comments :)

I switched from diet soda to water years ago without problem but then I moved and I find the tap water here to taste absolutely horrible. So, I just invested in a Brita pitcher - it filters out any extra taste from minerals and chlorine. It might help you like your water better :-) I pretty much only drink that and green tea. Good luck!

I don't know if this brand is worldwide but I tend to add a splash of Robinsons to my water. There are all sorts of flavours but I favour the orange & pineapple. xo

I know it sounds far fetched, but if you stick with water, (tap or filtered), your tastes will change. I used to love sodas but now I find the taste and the coating it puts in my mouth horrid.

    Water. Ice water tastes better
Tea. Mix up your flavors. Find a good tea house with lots of variety and go and try before you buy. Some of the flavors out there are amazing.

Stick with the water. It is worth it in the end and you will grow to love it.

I'm not a big fan of tap water myself and getting 8 cups down per day is a challenge but I've found that having a water dispenser w/jugs helps. The water tastes pretty good and the fact that it's cold seems to add to that.

Pure water is the best of course but it may be a journey until you get there like I did. I went from drinking nothing but soda to soda with out caffeine, diet soda, flavored water , to mostly all pure water with soda as a treat. Or energy drink if in emergency like tonight lol. Take your time it will come.

You just have to get used to it, putting in some lemon or lime or anything you would like to use for a bit of flavour should help.
Also taking small sips is better for you than chugging it back. When you chug it back your body wants to flush it out right away.

This is a bit off subject but not really.. If anybody would care to read here is a write up on the importance of water.
Im gonna be adding and changing a few things I wrote it up very quickly about a month ago and forgot about it until I saw this thread.

I didn't like water at first either. But I love mint water so I do is I get a 2 liter pitcher half ice half water get a ton of mint put in the pitcher and crush it in like you're making a mojito. Tastes like summer to me.

I also use lemons, limes and strawberries if I need some fruit (strawberry + mint is fantastic). At least this way you know what is flavoring the water. Some flavored waters have added sugar and things I don't really want to eat. I consider this a serving of water plus a serving of fruit.

I don't use the fruit and mint very much anymore because I like water now. But I still have problems drinking enough. A trick I discovered this weekend is to make a big bowl of spicy salsa. This time I only had 4 peppers so I thought "eh I'll just toss 'em all in" oops, it's pretty spicy stuff but still tasty. I sit down and eat a bowl of that (18 cal by the recipe calculator) no chips, eat it like a salad and I drink at least 2 glasses of water to wash it down :-)

I drink flavored water all the time. I just make sure it has zero calories. I use to drink Mt dew all the time and had a hard time switching to water but I find it easier to drink flavored water.
  • I got myself away from pop, intermittent snacking, and upping my water intake by making myself everytime I opened the fridge the first thing I had to do was grab an 8 oz bottle of water and drink it and walk away (I refilled them and put them back in the fridge). If I was hungry after that I would go in and grab some fruit or some veggie sticks. I have been without pop now for almost 5 weeks (almost a 2 liter a day soda drinker) and other than a glass of unsweetened french vanilla red tea (no caffiene) to break up the plainess, I only drink water. I don't drink the flavored water because so many of them have other stuff added, including sodium.
  • Some great ideas... Makes me feel a whole lot better knowing I'm not on my own with this dislike of water. Feel more positive now that it will come :)
