Mindless Snacking

I think my biggest challenge is not snacking at my desk throughout the day. I sit in a row of desks at a urology clinic and the ladies at the two desks around me snack all day, it gets my thoughts on food and snacking. I have found that keeping my cash at home makes a big difference since I can't hit up the vending machine, but there are some days that I end up eating my yogurt and veggies that I brought for lunch by 10 am so all I have left for lunch is a sandwich! This turns into me being RAVENOUS by the time I get home and wanting to snack on everything in sight. I don't know if it would just be better to bring more healthy snacks or just try to have more self control? If anyone has any suggestions, I would be open to hear them!

Surround yourself with healthier snacks! I usually keep a tangerine, apple, banana, string cheese, and what not on my desk so if I do feel the need to snack, I don't hit up the vending machine. One of my favorite "I'm really hungry but don't need a big meal" snacks is a bagel thin with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. Fills me up.
Do you eat breakfast? If so, maybe you can squeeze in a snack between breakfast and lunch so you don't devour your lunch so early in the A.M. I usually have some strawberries between breakfast at 8am and lunch around 1pm. Then, I do a P.M. snack between 4 and 5pm so I'm not starving when I get home and have time to prepare dinner. Usually works out fine. Good luck!0 -
When I was working and lost 36 lbs with WW, I was often hungry at 10 am as well. I would bring a snack of 15 almond and about 10 chocolate chips. The healthy fat curbed my hunger for a longer period of time and the chocolate could be enjoyed slowly and I didn't feel deprived of something sweet. I was then able to divide my lunch as you have been so that I had my sandwich for lunch and yogurt and fruit at about 3pm. Hope this helps, Good luck!0

Maybe get up a little bit earlier to make yourself a breakfast with protein? OR, you could go to the grocery store and try out different protein bars. That could be the trick--filling up with protein in the am. That way, you can eat a filling breakfast or a light breakfast with a filling protein bar as your snack at your desk. I have heard, quite a lot, that snacking before lunch is just plain old not good for us! It means the breakfast is not healthy/filling enough!0

Sounds like you need to bring more to work. I was finding myself going to the vending machines more often then thought "Wait...I can save money AND plan my snacks if I just bring them!" Plan for snacks. I literally surround myself with them. I have an orange and an apple on my desk every day for snacks; laughing cow cheeses, veggies and homemade dip/hummus and yogurts in the office fridge; and nothing "bad" around me otherwise it'll trigger something I can't stop. I investigated the vending machines and the store for acceptable snacks in case I forget something at home or just "need something salty". Veggie Straws are my salty treat from the store. And my biggest piece of advice: bring more than you think you'll need, it's better to be safe than sorry! Good luck!0

Thanks all for the advice! I will definitely start making sure I bring better snacks. I did pack myself a grapefruit today that I was able to split up into a mid-morning snack and a mid-afternoon snack. I do eat breakfast but it's definitely not a hearty one, it's usually cereal or two slices of peanut butter toast. Thanks again for the tips, they are all very helpful.0
