Leslie Sansone Walk DVDs--Creating Challenge/Intensity

I really like LS walking DVDs and want to continue using them as I get more fit; however, I was wondering how to create more of a challenge/intensity with the walks.
I was thinking about either a weighted vest OR leg and arm weights. Has anyone tried any of these things to increase the intensity of their LS Walks? If so, how did it work for you? What other things have you tried that have worked for you?
Just trying to some feedback from other LS Walkers. Thanks

I love Leslie Sansone's DVD's. My favorite is the 5 mile walk. I have added hand weights to my routine. some days I use them, some days I don't.... just to vary my routine. I also have the DVD that uses the stretchie bands. Haven't tried the weighted vest or leg weights yet, but that's an idea!0

Try leg weights. The ones that I had were adjustable to how much weight per leg.0

I've tried using an aerobic step. This did not work too well, but perhaps I should try this again ...... it should work in theory. Leslie has "basic" walking moves ..... I subbed in "basic" step moves. Speed is the issue (for me) ..... maybe if I use my own (slower) music, or used slower miles .....
I would like to try a rebounder (mini trampoline). This would allow me to jog most of the time. I've read where others do this successfully.
The Walk, Eat, Lose set with the resistance bands (worn on each foot). QVC sold & later on Walmart (much cheaper!) ..... is a nice little challenge. Keeps your arms & legs engaged the whole time. Other workouts use these bands (Body Gospel, Billy Blanks PT 24/7 has weighted gloves plus bands).
Weighted vest .... I'm guessing this would work really well. Leslie has a workout with a 2 LB weighted belt .... Walk Off Even More Weight (Target online, Walmart maybe).0 -
Thanks for the feedback.0

I have a few dvd's that use weighted balls, cuffs.
I'm also starting to jog more (boosted walking) when she's just stepping in place or forward/back.0 -
During my walks with Lesie, I will use hand weights especially when the arm movements are incorporated. I just keep them right on top of my coffee table to pick them up real quick.
I've also begun taking the regular walking in the videos and boosted it up, along with the boosted 2 min at the end of each mile. This way I'm adding more boosting/jogging and less just walking.
I just went through mine realizing how many I have, but only rotate between 3/4 dvds, 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk (my favorite), 5 Day Slim Down (next favorite), 5k with a Twist, and 5 Really Big Miles. I usually do 4-5 miles every day. I wish, Leslie would come out with another new one that has different new steps, and at least 5 miles.
I have 4 others that are the 1-2 mile walks, for when I'm really short on time.
Keep up the great walking ladies!!!! Walk strong, and walk the walk!!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
@ Jennhasfaith,
Leslie has a new DVD being released March 27 from Collegevideo.com. It's called Ultimate 5-Day Walk Plan. She has some new moves in this one along with specific toning exercises. You can go to Collegevido.com and view the clip.

I did these videos a ton when I lost a huge amount of weight a few years ago. I use wrist weights and ankle weights sometimes, on top of using the water weights.
I really like her videos, BUT I can't stand her voice anymore! I wish she would make a video with sound options like Julian's. Her video allows you to turn off her squawking and just have the music.0 -
Leslie's newer dvd's have the music options.....I just turn her voice down and play my own music but finding music that works well with her dvd's is kinda hard....0

Thanks for the heads up about this.0 -
I did Leslie's workouts after childbirth of all three of my children and it worked. However, nothing seems to be working now at this age, so I started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred but it was only day 2 today. So far it is intense, I will let you know how it works for me. But I loved Leslie too bad my body needed a more intense workout. Good luck try using some weights that will help!0

Here's a list of Leslie Sansone DVDs with a "music only" option
5K with a Twist (Leslie solo)
3 Mile Slim & Sleek Walk (Leslie solo)
The Big Burn 2 Miles of Intervals
Walk this Way (Leslie solo)
Walk Slim Fast Start & 3 Fast Miles
Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles
Burn Body Fat & Sculpt Your Arms (Leslie solo)
Power Walk with Friends
I use my own music often. I-pods have a BPM option (I believe) .... I just have a cheap MP3 loaded with ALL fast songs.0 -

The BPM (beats per minute) for a 15:00 minute mile is 142 and a 14:00 minute mile the BPM is 149. So anything from 140 - 155 should be pretty good
jogfm.com allows you to search music by BPM and genre. Here are a few songs in the 140's
AFI Miss Murder
Blondie Call Me
Britney Spears Toxic
Counting Crows Mr. Jones
Electric Light Orchestra Turn to Stone
Elvis Presley Suspicious Minds
Hootie & The Blowfish Let Her Cry
Huey Lewis & The News Hip to Be Square
Huey Lewis & The News The Heart of Rock & Roll
Marilyn Manson The Beautiful People
Mumford & Sons The Cave
Phoenix 1901
Ricky Martin She Bangs
Robert Palmer Simply Irresistible
Starship We Built This City
The All-American Rejects Dirty Little Secret
The Beatles Back In the U.S.S.R.
The Rolling Stones Get Off Of My Cloud0 -
