Accuracy of calories burned biking

I'm always really shocked at the number of calories burned while bike riding and was curious to ask if anyone better informed than myself would know if myfitnesspal tends to be accurate in its estimations. I just did an hour long bike and it says that I burned about 400 calories. I normally push myself a little more and MFP will say that I've burned over 500. Is that for real? I'll certainly be glad if it is.

Mmm, I'm not sure about the accuracy on any of these. After all, something as exerting as being on an elliptical trainer gets similar results in the "what the hell I did not only just burn 300 cal". But I find it doesn't matter that much as long as you feel you are pushing yourself in an exercise routine that will improve your muscle build and endurance? But to each their own0
