Hi, I was in the gym yesterday, 30 minutes on stepper (stairs machine) and it showed, that I burn 200kcal in 30 minutes (fast steps, really exhausting). On MFP it is about 400kcal in 30 minutes...I think that is not corresponding. I ofren see here, that many people burned soo many calories and I think its really unreal...what do you mean?

I think it depends on body type, Metabolic rate, etc. It would take more energy for a 215lb 5'7" woman to carry all that weight up all those stairs than a 140lb 5'7" woman.
  • For me mfp estimates for running and elliptical are not too far different from my hrm. However rowing machine estimate is way under. I always use the mfp estimate when logging even though it is less than my heart rate monitor so I have some room for error in my food intake. I guess it depends on how you define vigorous activity on the rowing machine - someone else's vigorous might be my moderate intensity.
If I row for 75 minutes my hrm will show 1000 cals but mfp only gives 625 cals.

I think this is a really good reason to invest in a HRM.
  • This is why I got my Polar FT4 HRM!! Mfp calorie burned count in very over exaggerated for the most part..

I find the MFP calorie burns completely off. They are far too high for running and far too low for rowing.
