Fourth of July tips?

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find it. I'm going to an all day/night 4th of July party tomorrow. I can eat normal food for breakfast (and maybe lunch), but the rest of the day, we will be at a party w/ a ton of food. I'm going to do my best to not go overboard...maybe have a few bites of less-than-healthy food. Any advice? What are other people doing?

    Every year, my street has a block party. (I quite possibly have the coolest neighbors ever!) I'm going to plan my day so that I have room for a hotdog and a few light beers ... even if I have to work out like a dog in the afternoon to earn some calories. That's my plan anyway.

    If it really matters, try to steer yourself toward the least-damaging foods you can find. Cole slaw, veggie platters, tossed salad. Bring a dish you can eat. Also, getting to your party already full (on things you've allowed yourself to have) works pretty good. Drink extra water to stay full-feeling. Have some of what's there, but in smaller amounts and keep a mental note of what you've eaten so that you have a running list and don't lose track.

    Thanks for the advice. I think it would actually be insulting if I brought a dish. My bet is that it's catered. Maybe I should take a little notepad and write down what I'm eating so that I'm at least accountable. :smile:

    I will be working out in the morning, so that will help. Also, I'll be sure to keep my hubby by me. He always gets on my case when I try to eat crappy food, lol.

    I concur with what everyone else says..............

    Go, have a great time and make the best choices available...............

    They should have relish tray, salad, cole slaw..............

    Go easy on the ketchup (full of sugar), bbq sauce, etc.............if they have grilled meat, ask for your sauce on the side (if that option is available.....)



    We are going to holiday world, so I will eat and have a good time, knowing that I haven't eaten a hamburger bun or french fries in months............I am going to be walking all over the amusement park, so I won't worry about it too much for 1 day.................

    My hubby wants me to just go and enjoy my day with him.

    YAY!!! At least he helps to hold you accountable, unlock some of the SO's I have read about on this board..............He just wants you to be your healthiest!!!

    My hubby is the same way..............We go out to eat and I order, he is like "Can you eat that?" Is that going to raise your sugar?

    He even told me last fall that I was gaining weight and he didn't want to see me have to get amputations like my grandmother or lose my eye sight due to glaucoma, as my grandmother did.....
    due to diabetes...........

    I don't want to live that way either, so lifestyle changes are being made. I slip up from time to time as any human does, but I am striving to make it where my body only craves vegetables and fruits.

    Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the
    Declaration of Independence?

    Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,
    and tortured before they died.

    Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
    Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army;
    another had two sons captured.

    Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or
    hardships of the Revolutionary War.

    They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes,
    and their sacred honor.

    What kind of men were they?

    Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
    Eleven were merchants,
    nine were farmers and large plantation owners;
    men of means, well educated,
    but they signed the Declaration of Independence
    knowing full well that the penalty would be death if
    they were captured.


    Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and
    trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the
    British Navy. He sold his home and properties to
    pay his debts, and died in rags.

    Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British
    that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
    He served in the Congress without pay, and his family
    was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him,
    and poverty was his reward.

    Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,
    Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

    At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that
    the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson
    home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General
    George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed,
    and Nelson died bankrupt.

    Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.
    The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

    John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying.
    Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill
    were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests
    and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his
    children vanished.


    So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and
    silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price
    they paid.
