Night Eating

Has anyone been successful at stopping night eating? That is when you go to bed and wake up and eat a sandwich or something to help you go back to sleep? Sometimes it can use up all of your calories before you get up in the AM....
Any ideas or things that have helped?

I remember as a child I'd do that...well I was more like 12 or something....my mom would catch me eating at night....I'd be starving....but then it stopped so I'm not sure why I started and very glad it stopped....
I did have a big problem w/ consuming all my cals at night and usually before bedtime though....not good!
what I did was plan my meals and ate them at the times I should....and if I needed a snack before bed, I'd do like yogurt the dairy/protien helped keep me full and help me sleep too.
I now will exercise after dinner and that keeps my appetite at bay...course it does give me super energy too so its hard to wind down....but I'd rather that than pickies all night! lol
I wish you luck and know its tough! are you fully awake while you do it? that could be something really different if you're sort of asleep....
hugs!

I do that a lot. Just eat something fast while going to get water, or if the baby wakes up. I think maybe having a quick healthy treat, like a side salad with lo cal/lo fat dressing might help. I might try that. Lately I have just been staying in place or reading a few pages from a good book though.0

I try to reserve about 200 calories after my dinner meal for an evening snack. I've found that a cup of cereal with milk works well, because the total calories are low and it fills me up until breakfast the next morning. Try not to eat after 8:30-9:00 though, it can disupt your nightime metabolism. Good luck!0

At night I like to take frozen strawberries blend them with water or juice, fiber powder and some splenda. I think the fiber and the sweetness makes me feel full. It tastes good too.0

I have a terrible problem with it. Any time my kids or anything wakes me up at night, my immediate thing to do is head to the kitchen for something sweet. Usually cookies. I won't touch them during the day, but when I am half asleep, I can easily eat 2 or 3 each time I wake up. And if the kids are sick, there are a lot of times to wake up. :sad:0

Fortunately I don't have that problem. When I do is when I wake up at 3am and can't go back to sleep. Then I want something to eat.:ohwell:0

Thank you so much for the support and ideas.
I have been struggling with this for years...more than a habit I think. Is a way I function. I really want to change.
I will try the cereal/yogurt, and strawberries with fiber ideas...and keeping something by my bed. It is nice to feel like people know and are caring if you do well.

I am working to stop night eating. I did not eat last night the 4 times I woke up but it paid off ...I got to actually eat breakfast this morning and I feel good. If anyone one else wants to work on night eating let me know!
I am going to try again tonight :flowerforyou:0 -
That is the thing...thinking that if I eat, I can sleep.....I am working ion shifting my thinking to...I need to hydrate..then I can sleep...
The whole thing really gets your metabolism off if you get into a "habit" I am so glad you don't have a problem with it..

So I had one good day and then last night was not good. Every time I got up (three times) I thought, "I need a peanut butter and jam sandwich...that would really help me sleep ":noway:
So i woke up and felt uhg!!!!
So now I have (with a workout and stretching), 100 calories left for the day. I am going to have soup for dinner and then work as hard as I can not to night eat tonight.
My rules are
1. Do not get out of bed unless it is to go to the bathroom.
2. Follow rule number one0 -
So... I am NOT the only one with this problem!
I'm glad you posted this, because I really thought it was just a "me" thing!
Every time I have to wake with the baby... or get up to use the restroom... or whatever... I think about SOME food that is downstairs. Honestly, it's almost as though it has a voice and is calling for me to come get it!
Have you tried eating a rice cake if you need crunch? -- The "popcorn" flavored ones are yummy!
Have you tried eating a couple pieces of cereal if you're thinking about something sweet?
Better yet... restrain yourself. Stay in bed!
It's a habit, like you said. And it's a hard one to break! But... we CAN do it! We only have to CHOOSE to!
