This is so true! Kuddos to you for getting her up and walking! It takes the push of a friend sometimes....... Pat yourself on the back, one for you pushing towards your goal and one for helping another step towards hers!

Absolutely AGREE and am inspired by motivation. I have always lived by "it is not what you say but what you do". Actions always will speak louder than any words! Good for you by taking that proverbial "bull by the horns" and getting her out there and moving. I would encourage you to try to do the same thing at least weekly with her as it sounds as though she needs the push.

Leslie, cnkan, Disney - Thank you all :)

peejay - she had already attempted to use a party today to keep her from going, so instead told her to call me after the party and I will come over tonight; which she agreed to. Told her it's like back in the drinking days when you would wake with a hangover, feeling horrible...time for "hair of the dog".... same with exercising and moving... sore? Move some more and it takes the edge off. So.... not waiting until next week, going tonight after my cardio workout, to insure she keeps moving. Eventually it will become routine/habit for her ;)

My daughter needs to lose weight more than i do. She refused to join MFP. I lost 11 pounds since I joined MFP and It shows in my clothes. I am becoming an inspiration to my daughter and family.

We are examples of people who are determined to lose weight and are suceding in it. I understand exactly how you feel. I feel the change in my family.

When we first got married, my husband could barely make it around the block. That was a tough walk for him. Knees were bad, asthma was bad, overweight. Two decades later, he is lighter than he has been since junior high school (though still overweight) and regularly runs 10K with me.

One of my friends was 400 lb, and lost 200 lb in a year (portion control and exercise) and now runs half marathons. She is tall, so 200 lb is a healthy weight for her and she looks very fit. This is a girl who was 100 lb by age 5 or 6 and 200 lb by age 10. She can get life insurance for the first time in her life. And her hubby gave her her first piggy back ride ever.

Don't ever believe you can't do it. Even if you're grossly obese, you can!

I would bring you too if you were!!! Here's the thing, and why I didn't let her make excuses. I work full time, hour commute both ways, entering school full time, have 3 kids (2 are disabled, so tons of physical therapy, specialists, therapies, school appts, meds, etc to deal with), have severe polyarticular rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, restrictive airway disease (lung disease), etc. I started with only 5 mins on the elliptical I bought and thought I was going to die. I made small changes to diet every 3 weeks (after 3 weeks you form a habit). I still have a ways to go to where I want to be (super slow due to the complicated accompanying issues), but it's success. There is no reason she can't feel that success too....there's no reason you can't.... there is ALWAYS an activity that someone can do that suits their needs medically, conditionally, etc. And those who know me, know I THRIVE off motivating people in general for good changes to their lives.... be it in parenting, education, fitness/health, you name it. It's just how I am made up... almost the same feeling as my intensity-induced adrenaline rushes :) If you want to send me a message and/or friend me and tell me what you are doing for activity, and what your obstacles are, maybe I could offer up some help? Either way, good luck on your journey too :)

How absolutely amazing for your husband as well as your friend! Isn't it the best feeling ever to watch them succeed at their goals?!? Also a great job to YOU! You are leading by a wonderful example doing the 10Ks!!!! How great! Sometimes that is all the motivation someone needs, to watch someone lead by example and not cram a bunch of unwanted info down their throat or make judgements.

You are so correct too.... EVERYONE can do it - but... you have to WANT to. If you have that desire, don't put it off, DO IT. Don't let something get in the way if you want to do it... just move! After awhile of you "trying" to do it and following through, it's then a routine/habit and you just made a HUGE change in your life!!! Some great stories you have witnessed and shared yourself... thank you for that :)

Wow, I had no idea you had all of that going on SIM. Your personal story is also motivational. Talk about no excuses!

    You rock my friend.

You totally rock and made my day, thank you! I understand where they come from; other than online, I am in this alone and it was TOUGH to get started. I figure if I do this with her for at least 3 weeks, she will develop a good habit and her body may even crave that added movement. Since she is morbidly obese and has other issues, I am starting her slow (that whole block was farther than I would have suggested, but I wasn't going to stop her if she thought she could make it either)....3x/wk and she has taken the initiative to start dietary changes herself. Beginning stages, but I remember that's when I had "make it or break it" moments with my body - it started to feel like I had pent up energy if I missed a workout... hoping I can help initiate that with her :) You have that with your friend, you give her that boost she needs to go do what is right, and you are an awesome friend for doing it!!!! By the way... the support with you and I is a totally two-way street! I look forward to the comments of encouragement :) I think we all need cheerleaders!

I have no idea what SIM is, but assume it's related to life outside of the "MFPer world" :) Unless people are messaging me in private, I seldom tell of the medical trials of our family...mainly because none of us in our household are allowed to use them as excuses or crutches. Due to this attitude, my daughter has gone from wheelchair bound in Dec 2010, to walking without assistive devices today! My son has gone from being told he will HAVE to attend the school of the blind, never ride a bike, etc.... to being MAINSTREAM classes, no special help, and rides a bike just fine (following someone so he doesn't run into parked cars though, lol). Anyone can do anything they put their minds to... NOTHING is ever impossible ;)
