Okay so tomorrow lunchtime I'm off with family for a Chinese all you can eat buffet. Can anyone give me any tips on the healthier options in this diet minefield!!!?

Thanks a million x

My best advice at a chinese buffet would be to have small amounts of all of your favorites. That would be my plan since I only do chinese about once a year, and it would be a real treat. :)

I would choose 1 or 2 dished that I absolutely love and look for calorie amounts for them, then use the highest values I can find. I would have 1/2 a cup of rice with a small amount of one and half a cup of rice with a small amount of the other, and when you log over estimate the amount a little. Drink Diet soda, and talk a lot. Maybe even log it before you go so the decision has already been made. Because I am in the begining stages I can't afford to have a big blow out so I plan, plan, plan. Have fun!

Vegetable dishes are generally lower cal. Chicken is good too, but watch for the almond gai ding or other deep fried goodies.

I would do TONS of extra exercising, eat very light for your other two meals, drink LOADS of water, and enjoy the heck out of the buffet! (I only do Chinese about every few months, but, when I do, I LOVE the buffet, and I totally enjoy myself! )
  • I agree with BrenNew's suggestion of lots of water.

What I'd do is eat slower than normal so I can listen to my body when it says "STOP HERE PLEASE!" before I got too full because buffet's can be overwhelming. Go for steamed veggies, white (or brown if they have it) steamed rice over fried rice, and drink tons of water.

    Good luck tomorrow! :flowerforyou:

I went to a chinese place the other day and they actually had a 'Weight Watchers' section on the menu with lots of steamed veggie goodness and nonfried things. :D Before I went I also had gone swimming and walking which burned an extra 300+ cals so I could afford to not be so strict because the friend I was going with calls me the "calorie nazi"

seafood n veggies. Try to avoid anything fried and stay away from the rice
  • Wow, thanks for your suggestions guys! Think I'm going to opt for loads of exercise and water, eat slowly and chew more and stay away from fried stuff, hopefully that will help. Finger's crossed for Monday's weigh in...!
