Could someone C&C what I've eaten so far today?

For the last 70 days or so since I decided to lose weight, I haven't been trying very hard. My only real tactic has been never to eat very much. From today onwards, however, I'm aiming to eat more cleanly.

With this in mind, could I have comments and critique on what I've eaten today so far? What should I change? I know that was really not the healthiest yoghurt - it was the fattiest and sugariest yoghurt in my fridge - but I was drowsy and didn't look at nutritional info. :x

You need to make your diary public first
  • Oops, sorry - I thought I had! It's public now. :) (I know my eating habits before today were utterly appalling, but I'm putting that behind me.)

The only thing I'd really change from today's is the Danish salami. Very high fat. Try swapping it for chicken breast, or lean ham

I regretted that the moment I ate it. I was going to have two slices of turkey, but I had a relative over unexpectedly, and gave them the last slice. I should've just stopped there. Thanks for the advice! :)

I wouldn't worry about the fat since you're so low on calories. Fat isn't bad, carbs aren't bad, but unless you're 4' 10" and 95 lbs 900 calorie days are bad.

I know; I had a habit of eating whatever I wanted for the taste, and compensating by not eating very much. I also hate the food in my school's cafeteria (I'm 18, but I'm in the last year of high school because of when my birthday falls and how the school system takes students in in my area), so I often don't eat lunch on weekdays - I'm working on that. I think that might be why I've hit this noisome skinny-fat plateau.

p.s. since you are eating at a dangerously low level ( assuming you are logging everything) disregard my earlier comment. you really should eat more.

I always look at the "cost/benefit ratio" of what I eat. Looking at yours, the highest calorie item was the panini. Was it really that much more satisfying than the tomatoes or the hummus? Think of how many tomatoes you could have eaten for 120. How much salad? How many carrot sticks?

I don't shy away from carbs entirely, but I try to substitute them with vegetables or take my carbs as fruit instead of carb-dense things like bread and rice.

THIS. I cannot stress how dangerous it is for you to be eating 900 calories a day. I should point out that the less you eat for weight loss, the less you will be able to eat to maintain your weight post loss due to the fact that your body will have made itself a lot more efficient at using up energy, so any extra will be conserved. You might think less calories is better because society has sent out a message that calories are evil etc. This isn't true, I eat 2000 calories and weigh 110-115lbs and right now I'm maintaining (and I'm not even eating maintenance which for me is 2275, but I screwed up and starved myself so I can't eat that now). Stick to 1200 as a MINIMUM, not a maximum.

Edit to add that seen as your 18 to lose weight you should be eating 1500 as a minimum not 1200 as teens (females up to 21 I think) ned the extra calories because they haven't finished growing. And no, just because you've stop physically growing in the sense you're not getting any taller, you still have processes internally that need the extra calories.

    Nothing wrong with a panini.
    Remember everything in moderation.
You can eat fairly healthy without cutting carbs, fat and **** like that.

work out to compensate. and by god. Eat more. Even if it's a handful of nuts that'll boost ya cals.

judging on the comments on your profile and your worryingly low calorie intake I seriously suggest you speak to your doctor about your eating habits and nutrition

Ok, I don't share this ofter but you look like a nice person so I'm going to give you the secret. Get ready to write this down.

    I'll Wait...:embarassed:

    Ok, here it is...

You have to eat to lose weight.

    Yup...big secret is now revealed.

I'll definitely keep that in mind - thanks! I ate the panini simply because it was there. I could have eaten more fruit or vegetables, but the panini happened to be there. I'll try to avoid carbs for the rest of the day - I'm eating chicken for dinner, so that should raise my protein:carb ratio.

I agree you need to eat more. Fuel your morning with more breakfast. You are using you brain and need a good start to your day. My daughter is a sr in hs also hand she packs her breakfast and lunch every day. School lunches are so bad.

Can you pack a lunch? Eating a healthy lunch will help you get 1200 calories per day and get the protein you need. Hard boiled eggs, beans, tofu, etc are good sources of protein

Swap out your yogurt for Greek yogurt. It has a few more calories but lots more protien. Otherwise, you have a good start.

Sitting in the cafeteria eating a packed lunch is incredibly awkward, because we have to sit on an allocated table if we're eating packed lunches. Apparently, this is so the staff can check if what we're eating is healthy. We also aren't allowed to eat them outside the cafeteria.

Not as far as I know; because I don't quote reply to a post doesn't mean I haven't read it, just that I'm waiting for someone else to post so I don't double-post, which's discouraged on most forums. Sorry! I prefer to weigh up all of the advice I get. Thank you for your advice!
  • You might think about eating lunch more regularly. When you eat your body kicks up your metabolism, and when you skip a meal it does the opposite.

this isnt true. while you do need to eat more, meal frequency during the day isnt the problem.

    I may have been misunderstood....

I avoid carbs in pasta, bread and rice because for the amount of calories I pay for them, I don't get much pleasure out of it.

I would rather eat a POUND of lean fish, a huge PILE of cherry tomatoes, four pints of blueberries or a few sackfuls of raw spinach instead of the 1/2 serving of rice, bread or other processed carb that has the caloric equivalent. That's all I'm sayin'. I managed to lose 23 lbs in 3.5 months going at 1200 calories a day by eating lots of fresh foods and only having processed carbs occasionally.

What I was trying to say was that I think a person is better off eating more of one thing rather than small amounts of another.
