its a violent game because the whole point is to kill things and go on quests where you kill things,.. but its fun, my husbands ex had two boys about that age and they liked it a lot.. most people playing are over 18, so some of the language can be coarse when you're hanging out in a town, but they have filters for that... its worth a try, right now they let you play a character up to lvl 20 for free, so i would try it out, jsut watch what hes doing...
the fun for me is in the in game professions, you can gather herbs, make jewlery, make armor, mine for ore.. its fun..0 -
I played for a year a few years ago. I quit before WotLK came out.
I have/had a level 70 (cap at the time) mage.
I quit because I didn't like the end game raiding... Couldn't sit and focus for 2-3 hours 2-4 nights a week my guild required!
To the poster a few above me... I personally wouldn't let a 10 year old play! Not because of the game, but because of the community/public chat aspect. You should try the free trial yourself and see if you think it's appropriate0 -
WoW is a great abstinence program.
I have 85 toons on Rodcet Nife and Thrall but been playing swtor lately.0 -

Same here but I wasted to much time on it and many other games for years. i would still play but it's really better for me and my family if I don't. When I quit I had a level 70 druid and hunter and many other low level characters I used to play.0 -
I played from open beta til 2011. I went on a deployment with the guard unit I belong to and I was so far behind and so much had changed that I felt too far gone to even want to try to catch up. Was undead healing priest.0

85 ret pally on feathermoon. lots of other toons i rarely play (81 dk, 50 shammy, etc)0

Star Wars MMO = FTW!!!!!!!!!!0

I played for a long while but quit due to the end game as well... I'll always still hold Everquest as my alltime favorite MMORPG. I love crafting and questing... but don't have the hours to put into it anymore.
I wouldn't let my 10 yr old play unless I was playing alongside of them and in the same guild etc.0 -
Played for years, sold my account, now have 2 toons on a private server. Dont play very often, the game was at its best at the end of Vanilla WoW0

10 x 85's on Area 52, 1 of each class and max level of all professions.
Been playing since Vanilla and as you can tell I love to level up lol
Used to play my Paladin exclusively throughout TBC and WOTLK but since all the changes in Cataclysm I have gone back to my Priest as Disc0 -

wow thats impressive.. i play pretty exclusively my ret paladin, only because its easy and i dont really like my games to be difficult. i like to do quests and professions..
the last time i went into a pug dungeon, i got yelled at for not being good lol... all the guys my husband used to play with all got lives, and my husband plays world of tanks more than wow, so i like to just do stuff i can do on my own..0 -
My main's a lvl 85 balance druid, I have an 85 enhance shaman too.
As for the game being kid-appropriate - there is some violence, but not too bad for a 10-year old. The content of the game itself is fine The issue I would have is all the other players in game. The trash-talk is constant in trade chat, local chat, and whispers, and ranges from slightly annoying (name-calling, swearing, etc that you can handle with the in-game profanity filter and the occasional character mute) to completely inappropriate (links to extremely disturbing content, over-the-top racism and sexism, harassment, stalking, etc- the type of stuff that a profanity filter can't help you with). If it were a single-player game, I'd say let your kid enjoy it. But as it is now, it's rated T for Teen for a reason.0 -
Hi,
Im a Guild master on Vek'nilash and i love the game, at present the guild has over 100 members. I have an 85 hunter, 85 DK, 73 priest and a few other lowbies. My hubby has more 85's and is a much better player than me lol.
I should be raiding now, but im on here :laugh:0 -
My wife and I use to be addicted to WoW. Together, we had 9 or 10 lvl 85 toons. We stopped playing about a year ago but I still love to reminisce.0
-
My brother got me hooked on it! He's buying me a subscription as a late xmas present I'm waiting for him to get his bank statement in the mail so he can pay for it and i feel like i'm going through withdrawal! lol0
-
I'm actually currently studying to be a game designer. However, I will not let myself play WOW because I know I would get hooked and never finish my degree or get a job.0
-
Any WOW geeks out there? Would love to talk about anything game related. I'm an 85 rogue.
Getting Fangs of the Father?0 -
Kael'thas undead warrior named Spanktastick here. Use to play almost all the time but thankfully with working out and trying to be more healthy I've cut back alot.0
-
I'm a WoW nerd! Definitely not as often as I want to be but I'm there. 85 priest, 85 pally, 75 shaman, 83 mage, and some other toons in the 40s or so. Add me if you want and even real id once I've gotten to know you.0

Can't say I like the game. For my husband WoW is the other woman. I have tried to talk to him, the kids have even made comments about Daddy being too busy to help them or get them something when they need it. He admitted once that he is addicted, but he won't stop or limit his time. I can't compete with his addiction anymore.0
-
Sherry go out and do stuff by yourself. His curiosity will make him follow. Talk about the cool stuff your kids do the same will pull him out of the chair hopefully. if not only other choice is to kick him out or join the dark side.0

Ex-WoW junkie here. 85 resto/ele shammy on Anvilmar. I loved end-game content in WotLK but I couldn't dedicate the time it takes to gear up for endgame in Cata. I grinded rep for a few factions for a few pieces I needed, started hardmode dungeons, and bailed. It just wasn't fun anymore. Also, I read an article on gaming addiction and how these companies specifically design them to turn us into rats pressing buttons, waiting for our treats (i.e. random drops really aren't that random - they are designed to keep us grinding over and over and over and paying them for what isn't really fun if you think about it).
I wouldn't allow your 10 year old to play for the same reason the other players mentioned - the other users. MMORPGs aren't for little kids because adults (and teens) can be, well, rather adult in their conversations. Unless, of course, you want your kid exposed to an indepth lesson on anatomy and intercourse (anything from women and men to men and men to men and... sheep? I think I saw a lizard in the mix once), politics and why the government sucks or rocks, the occasional "You're all going to hell!" speech, and the various names and creative cussing that goes on. That said, some parents allowed their children to have accounts. Generally, these were guild leaders who ran guilds with family-friendly rules so they knew their kids weren't exposed to adult themes at least inside the guild. I also allowed my children to create a toon on my account but I never let them play enough to get out of the starting areas and into the more public population.
Sherry, I started off a WoW widow too. Then I started playing to get some sense of why in the world he was choosing his stupid game over his family. I understand it completely now. I'm just thankful we don't play like we used to.0 -
I am a lvl 85 rogue! My entire family plays WoW: brother, sister, brother-in-law and two nephews. For Christmas, I got my nephews Pathfinder RPG for some face-to-face socializing and to expand their creative side.0
