Or is that just another ridiculous weight loss myth? I love spicy and since hot sauce is a calorie free way to spice up food I will eat regardless but I am just curious.

I've found that when I eat spicy foods I tend to eat slower, and therefore I do a better job of stopping when I'm full rather than eat to eat. I don't think there's a nutritional reason for spicy food and weight loss (but could be wrong), but for me there's a psychological one. If you have a high tolerance for spice though, maybe it doesn't slow down your eating.0

I credit this among other spicy foods with my weight loss success

It would depend how you cook it. Hot sauce is added at the table and doesn't add a lot of calories. But it plays havoc with your colon.
Spicy food is more typically made by heating the peppers at high temperature before adding liquid ingredients. It may mean dry toasting, but more often means frying in oil. That would add calories.0 -

Oh lord, that's my crunk juice...0 -
I like hot pepper rings but I try not to add them to my food if I am going to go over on my sodium. Pickled foods have a lot of sodium. So I would keep that in mind as well. I would look at it as a way to make your food more enjoyable and satisfying, not as a weight loss tool.0

I'm sure it's not a myth. Simply eat those spicy foods and stay in a calorie deficit. Wahmmo....weight loss.0

Not 100% myth.

I'm going to go with myth as well. 90% of my diet has always been spicy foods and it didn't prevent me from gaining.
I do attribute my weight loss with spicy foods though. Within my calorie limit.0 -
Foods spiced with chili peppers (hot sauce contains those) actually do ramp up your weight loss a little. In a roundabout way. Chili peppers contain capsaicin (also found in bell peppers, but not in the same quantity), and that does temporarily kick your metabolism into a higher gear. Which is why you might find you're sweating after eating a spicy meal.0

My bet is that people who eat more "spiced" foods probably loose more weight because they aren't seasoning their foods with salts and fats..........but it doesn't make a ton of sense that spicy foods are going to actually cause weight loss by nature of being spicy.0

You know what boosts your metabolism ten times more than spicy foods?
Exercise. :drinker:0
