We get a lot of threads on here about how mean people can be, and how others sabotage our attempts to change.

What is the nicest thing anyone has said or done since you started?

I will start with the sweetest. It was my daughter a few years ago. She was probably 4 years old. I mentioned that I was going to start trying to lose some weight and that I needed to get healthier. I told her I wanted to change myself for the better.

She looked at me with this sad, sad, almost horrified face. "But Daddy, I love you just the way you are!"

I joined the gym that week. There is no way I am leaving her any earlier than I have to.

Some others. I commented on FB about some NSVs and even had a friend out of the blue mail me a gift certificate from a clothing store.

When I posted progress pics on here, everyone said that not only do I look like I lost the weight, but I also looked 10 years younger! Loved that! <3
  • OMG!! That is SO freakin' awesome!! Way to go downsizinghos!! That takes a lot of courage to actually tell your kid that........and even more to actually mean it and go for it!! AND that last line just went right through my heart......I hope she appreciates her daddy!!

Mine, I am not sure.......I'd just have to say any and all compliments come into first place for me.......one my Dad says is that every time he sees me that I am just wasting away..... :) And Mom says "you look so much healthier.......your skin, hair, ect look so much better".

I have the best parents in the world!

I heard a few nice things but the most recent was when my karate sensei said I was looking great and she noticed the difference already. It made me feel as if I'm on my way to success. I still have a way to go but it was motivating.

that is amazing! one of the reasons that i want to be healthy is that my mom died of colon cancer when i was nine. to this day i still miss her and that was over 30 yrs ago! i want be here for my children. I got a hug from my son the other day cuz i took him roller skating and he said, mom you feel so skinny! the absolute best! and then he said well now i know if i want something what to say! little devil! and people tell me now all the time how great I look and that there is no way that I am 44. feels fantastic. oh and the getting hit on all the time helps also! lol

I've had several people tell me that they are proud of me and that I'm looking good. However, I think my favorite was when my wife wanted me to show of my progress to some of our friends. She pretty much ordered me to take off my shirt to show 2 of our friends. It makes me feel like a trophy, but in a good way.

I'm not sure what the BEST thing has been, because I've had so much encouragement, from my friends here, from facebook friends, and from family, so I'll just give you a recent one because it's meaningful to me.

I was visiting my dad in Texas and got up early one morning to do some pushups and go for a run. My dad was up reading the paper and was impressed at how many I could do.

That may not sound like a lot, but my dad is not a man of compliments, lol. It meant a lot for him to notice and to be proud of me.

My mom likes to tell EVERYONE about my weightloss. She even took my before picture to her work & showed all her coworkers. For weeks, everyime I went in the store, I heard "We saw your picture. You look amazing! How'd you do it?" Stuff like that. It's really nice to have support like that.

Also, yesterday I was doing my 30 day shred (level 3) & my stepdad watched for a minute & then told me i'm stronger then he though I was because the move I was doing was difficult. My day was made :)

I sent my sister my avatar pic. My 17 year old nephew saw it and said, "Geez, is she bench pressing her husband?" This is the kid who has taken great pleasure in letting me know how fat I am since he was 12.
  • The nicest thing that's happened to me since I started MFP 3 weeks (at midnight!) was for someone to tell me that my profile picture is BEAUTIFUL!
  • Last week, I was at the grocery store paying for my stuff and this older gentleman says, "I remember when I used to look like that!" I pointed to the cashier (a fit young man) and said, "yeah, he's in really good shape isn't he?!" Then this older man was telling me how he used to be over 200lbs of muscle when he was in his late 30's and early 40's. I asked him how old he was, he told me he was 60. I let him know that he was in VERY good shape (and he was, he looked trim) and I encouraged him to keep going.

Funny how we never really know how people see us, huh?? We're so hard on ourselves at times and we concentrate too much on our flaws and shortcomings. This man's comments were very appreciated and un-expected to say the least.
  • to have had so many people on the friday eye candy thread post some of my modeling work...very flattered

My favorite compliment so far was from a coworker. She very carefully asked me if I had lost weight. I said, "Yes, thank you!". She then went on to tell me how she thought I had, but she waited to stay something until it was really noticeable. It was a casual Friday and the jeans I was wearing looked looser than they had been before.

I felt that was the most genuine compliment I had heard in awhile, because she didn't want to throw it around all willy nilly or risk upsetting my feelings if I just started dressing differently. She made sure she knew what she saw and congratulated me for it. I told her I was going to keep going with it and she said, "yes, it looks good on you." and I was happy!

Ran my first 5 miles this morning, and my boyfriend told me at lunch time how much he admire me; that I was determine, that I had success in everything I was doing, and that he knew from where my kids got that attitude (they are 17 and 16 y.o. - raise them alone). That brought tears to my eyes...

Last week when my daughter asked me to come see her at college. She said we could go shopping and lay out at Bikini Hill.
You won't find me in a college town laying out at "Bikini Hill", but I have to say it felt pretty good to be invited. LOL

I got his e-mail from my father after asking him for some advise on lifting:
".... I am so proud and happy for you because of what you're doing for your self.......I know from experience, you will be so happy with yourself. You will feel so much better. Life will get so much better in so many ways honey....I Love you baby girl and I am so proud of you..In many more ways than you'll ever know......"
