Diet Food

I have had a belief that diet soda is the root of all evil. Looks like I may be right: http://fwd4.me/0vPT

Perhaps I am wrong but if someone is monitoring their calories and only eats a certain amount (I.E uses MFP) then low-calorie foods are probably not a bad idea. For example, I have switched to those 100 calorie snacks for work and am losing weight just fine. But I do see others that drink diet soda with their big mac and expect it to be healthy while they never lose the weight.0

Did you read the article? It suggests that low fat and diet food increase the body's craving for the real thing.0

It's a study on rats... it hasn't proved anything for humans.
I lost 50lbs a few years back. Drank diet coke everyday. Had Sugar Twin in my coffee. Used it in baking. I never craved anything else.0 -
The article says that "..it tricks the body into wanting the real thing and then we overeat" so.....since we are not lab rats, take control over your body and don't eat more! problem solved!0

This article doesn't provide a lot of information, but it sounds like those rats were not on a calorie-restricted diet.
Personally, I eat a lot of what would be considered "diet foods" sprinkled in with the whole foods in my diet. I have sweet n low in my coffee every morning and drink a lot of generic sugar free flavored drinks similar to Crystal Light. So far, I have not noticed any serious cravings to overeat.0 -
While it's possible that this sort of thing may affect people the way the researchers found with the rats, it wasn't that way with me....I drink 2-3 cans of diet soda every day.0

I'm gonna have to agree with Mallory3411 and Zakth (and others that posted as I was typing).
I have lost almost 60 lbs in 117 days and I use sucralose (Splenda) on a daily basis and chug Crystal Light like I own stock in the company. Not to mention my occasional Diet Coke that I would drink every day if if weren't for the caffeine wrecking havoc on my sleep.
Animals cannot reason. These studies are always skewed in the wrong direction. Humans can rationalize and know how to count calories. Just because we choose not to doesn't mean we need to point fingers at Diet Coke or any other product.0 -
A bunch of crappy chemicals probably isn't the BEST choice if you are trying to treat yourself well.
On the other hand, there are probably a lot of other WORSE things we do to ourselves.
And anyone will make an excuse to justify any bad habit they want.0
