grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............ Most days I eat in my office cause when I have my lunch in the break room I am surrounded by folks eating things that are off my list, like fried chicken, burgers and TODAY......... a hot italian meatball sandwich. I wanted it so badly. Am I always going to crave other people's lunches? I feel like the kid that is wanting to trade her carrot sticks for fries. Will it ever go away?? Or, will I have to just eat alone so that I don't feel like I am missing out. I know their are healthy options of these kinds of foods, i.e., a turkeyball open faced sandwich, but I think it's also the freedom to eat whatever & whenever that gets to me.

Eating healthy sometimes can be such a challenge.

just reading this topic made me hungry. haha. that is one of my faves! I don't forbid myself from having something, but I do make sure to moderate portions. So lets say I "caved" with the meatballs..I'd probably just eat some of the sandwich & share the rest. You don't need to avoid people just to avoid their food. But also, my body has adapted to certain foods since I started getting back in shape. So, I don't crave certain foods the way I used to. I find that over time you just naturally want to eat healthier kinds of foods so hanging around other people's food should get easier.

it definintely gets easier to say no after a while. i walk through the grocery store sometimes and just look at the things i used to eat and then look at the healthy food that's in my basket and remember what's more important. sometimes i even put them in my basket and walk around a bit and then put them back but i think that makes me a little strange.

you can make your meatballs using eggplant for the meat, quick oats as a binder. use carrots for the sweetness in your red sauce and eleminate the sugar. enjoy.

First of all congratulations on resisting temptation! I don't think passing on your favorite foods gets any easier. It can get easier thinking about WHY you say no.
I've learned to not completely deny myself my favorite foods. I may not be able to have them that particular day because of the calories I have left, but I try to work them in occasionally so that I don't over indulge. Of course, there are always the healthier alternatives that you mentioned.
You're doing great. Keep up the hard work.

I allow myself the occasional "unhealthy" meal, but I am superaware of portion sizes and don't let myself go crazy, thanks to this site.

I don't want to give up the foods I enjoy, but the days of me being able to polish off a 2000-calorie plate of nachos by myself are OVER.

The last time I was craving a meatball sandwich, I made it at home and put it on a wrap instead. Worked out really well. Try coming up with slightly improved options for the things you crave, it helps you avoid the more calorific versions if you can 'treat' yourself to your own version every now and then. :-)

I think that if you're in a place where you feel that you have enough self-control and can have these items you want in moderation then you should eat them. If you feel that you are completely depriving yourself and feeling this much frustration now this could lead you to completely lose control and "fall of the wagon." But if you know that they aren't off limits and can have them you won't be deprived or allowing it to bother you so much.

I love Nutella but at first I knew I couldn't have it anywhere near me. Now I can have just a spoon full and that satisfies me for at least a month or two.

So if you want a hot Italian meatball sandwich and a turkey one or something else won't do the fix .. have one ... and then get back to your regular healthy eating.
