Dropping a pound a day, why?

I can't seem to grasp it, each morning I weigh in a pound lighter. This isn't my initial loss, it's happened for 48lbs straight before(also while doing muscle-building exercises).

I've only been doing cardio this time around, but need to try to tighten up soon. Just intimidated by all the scary guys on the machines and hardly any women.

As for my intake, I literally eat all day I cannot see to eat even more to try to make 1200 calories. On a good day when I try to eat more it's still only 1000 then burn 400+

  • You should have a blood test to check your thyroid. Do you get sweaty at night?

So, you eat less than a thousand calories a day and burn over 400 calories a day? Well, that would explain weight loss.

bc i weigh in every day i sometimes notice i'll drop a pound or so every day sometimes... i wouldn't really get concerned unless you weren't doing all the right things.. maybe as u drink more water you are gradually flushing ur system.. i notice my more dramatic losses during the week are after i've had a lot to drink or if i'm severly dehydrated.

    Exactly.

And, may I ask, if you "literally eat all day" and "cannot see to eat even more to try to make 1200 calories," how did you get fat?

Serious question. Help me out here.
  • That's why. You are starving yourself, whether you think you are or not. Losing weight that fast also means you are losing muscle mass. Not to say you aren't losing some body fat, but likely most of it is muscle.

I doubt you can't reach 1200, you wouldn't be here to lose if that was the case.
Make sure you're staying honest with yourself and your logging, and try eating 1200-1400 a day. You may lose weight initially but eating less than that will mess up your metabolism in the long run.

Sounds like she got "fat" by ruining her metabolism. To the OP, unless you are under close supervision of a doctor what you are doing is very dangerous and will likely have many negative consequences long term.

I would not weigh daily, not a good practice. I would suggest you pick a time and do it weekly, the same day and time each week. There are too many flucuations otherwise....

Can you open your food diary too? Might be able to help you out a little better.

How many days has this been happening?? :noway:

You are not eating enough my dear. Eating 1000 calories then burning 400 makes you lose your muscle hun. Try upping your calories. Try eating more higher calorie foods like peanut butter, avocados, olive oil, rice, beans, etc. Best of luck to you!
  • Not sure I understand your question. Your profile says you lost 20 before coming here and your ticker says 2 pounds so I don't know where you are getting 48. Are you saying you have lost 48 pounds in 48 days? Maybe open your food diary. There are a lot of people on here who know what they are talking about and I am sure they can help you get up to 1,200 plus per day.

I got fat eating large amounts of bad food obviously, I was talking about as I'm dieting..
And eating all day meaning munching on fruit, nuts, grains. Plus my three meals.

    48lbs last year. Gained back.
This is my second time around. Lost 20 before I've discovered this site. And now lost 4 just not recorded.

You're eating 1000 calories on a good day and burning around 400? That's 600 calories a day! I think it's pretty obvious why you're losing weight, but you're going to **** up your metabolism and long term health in the process. You'll probably hit a plateau somewhere along the way too. You really need to try and eat more.

Thanks for the helpful replies, as for the no-so-helpful ones, I'm obviously here for guidance.. not to be considered an idiot because I'm not fully informed..

Ok maybe cook with olive oil, dont use "diet foods" or reduced fat stuff. Just try and eat as normal as possible and practice portion control. You will definately hit your calorie goals then, I know I sure do. Nothing is off limits for me, practice the same but in porportion.

Yeah, I've stopped the 'diet' foods because eating natural and raw foods seems the better choice. Also the sodium content in most of the diet things are more than I'd like as I retain water quite easily.

However, I haven't been cooking with oil, or using mayo, etc. Just steaming and boiling things.
Maybe adding oils will help, I just thought the healthiest ways were to not add too much to the original natural product.
    Also been mostly eating organic.

I cook all my veggies in extra virgin olive oil.. It's pretty good stuff for the body and if you're having issues getting caloirs it's about 120 calories for a table spoon. Good fat with omega3.

I didn't take the earlier responses as trying to be unhelpful just pointing out that you probably were used to eating more before so they're unsure why you're having trouble now. Sometimes we all need a little dose of reality when we start to overthink things.

Adding oils and fats will definitely help you. They are good for your body, and part of healthy diet, if you're eating the right kinds. Olive oil is very healthy and probably should be your "go to" for adding calories. It's definitely better to add some healthy oils than to eat too little. I think rather than thinking about not adding to the natural product you just want to get into the habit of adding other natural things to it so you can eat enough.

    Good luck!

dont be afraid of the guys in the musclehead section. in all my years of lifting, i've only come across 3 *kitten* and each time the rest of the guys in the section would come to my rescue before i would even have a chance to tell him he was being an *kitten*

Always wondered what I should eat after I go to the gym. Usually it's later in the night(I haven't gone yet) so I kind of don't feel like eating much and I've done a really tough elliptical session so I want sleep.
  • Ok, since I have been reading this post about losing one pound per day and I am hearing all kinds of advice from people....but I have a couple questions to add for everyone that has posted on this thread.....

    1. What is your daily calorie intake?

    2. How many days a week do you excersize?

Maybe seeing the ranges of caloric intake might give this girl some insights on how much to eat a day to balance out her metabolism.....

Personally, I work out about 6 days every week and eat around 1,300-1,400 a day...but Ive been know to eat 2000 a day and still manage to lose weight. I think that switching up your calories every few days is a great way to jump start your metabolism.

Thanks for the responces, people. :)
