First time going to the gym...

Tips for a newbie? I'm going to the gym for the first time tomorrow.
I know there are certain unwritten rules seasoned gym goers follow. I know don't stand around naked (not that I would) and wipe off the machine when you're done. Anything else? I don't want to tick people off lol

If you are going to lift weights, observe the lifting area for a minute or so to see what everyone is doing. You don't want to cut in front of something and use a machine if, for example, they had just went to get more weights or something.0

Just do your thing and try not to be self-conscious. Everybody there is on their own journey and won't pay any attention to you....unless you are just standing around.
Also, as a first-timer, getting an orientation to the machines...how they work and how to be safe is really important. I'm not a big fan of using personal trainers, but paying for a few sessions to get you on a good path could be worthwhile.0 -

This. And if you don't want to look like you are "watching" what everyone else does, puff out your chest and breath really heavy with your hands on your hips like you're taking a breather. lol. Or, pace back and forth to get a better view but watch. hehe. That's what I do, to watch other people. Or, I watch one day and imitate the next.
Enjoy it!!!! It's not that scary, I promise!0 -
definitely get the free walk through and fitness consultation. you can get one of the trainers to show you every piece of equipment and how to use it.
also make sure to ask them how to use equipment in the weight room like the squat rack, plates the cable machine, etc. i've found that at gyms there's always a cache of stuff you never see but need to ask about.
i wouldnt worry too much about making a mistake most people are pretty nice.
good luck!0
