Just wanted to share pics of our new family member Shiloh, she's a sweetheart..She is 7 weeks old and feels like i have a baby all over again,lol...She is very smart!! Already learned how to sit, stand, stay and lie down!! I love her..I can't wait til she gets older so she can jog with me,right now she can only go about 30 mins before she starts crying! She gets me up in the morning which i needed, keeps me up on me feet for sure!!! Thanks for reading!!!

Omgosh, I just about died, what an adorable like wrinkly thing. I've got a 3 1/2 month old Rottie, and he's awesome to go for jogs with now...

Here's my baby, he's my first puppy (we've always gotten dogs that were a few years old) and my first big girl dog - not bought with my family:

He's bigger than this now, but I don't have any recents on Photobucket.

    Oh my, so cute!!

I met a guy with a Sharpei puppy at the mall the other day. The dog's name was Diego and I almost convinced him to come home with me and forget about his previous owner.

Are they hard to take care of, though? Like, do they get irritated skin between the folds that requires special care?

    Thanks,your pup is so adorable!!
  • DON'T MAKE THAT PUPPY RUN, they have short snouts and often have a hard time controling temperature.

Due to his short nose, the Shar-Pei is prone to overheating. Keep him inside with fans or air conditioning during hot summer months. Like other short-nosed breeds, he tends to snore and wheeze, and makes a terrible jogger.

I found this here, I looked it up because I watch a ton of dog shows and I remembered somthing about this. Just thought you would like to know, I would hate to see something bad happen to her sweet little face! Also the article has some good info on temperment and early socialization. Good Luck!

That is was happened with my mom. Two days after we got our puppy, she drove 6 hours to and from her house to go get an Alaskan Malamute.

Thanks,i had a sharpei growing up,and he never gaves up problems..You do have to clean out their ears and eyes get really watery.Thankful ours hasn't had any problems, she is only 7 wks though, but taking her to her regular vet appts and she's doing really good!!!

The breeder where we got her from had all her sharpeis outdoors and were very fit and healthy,I keep her inside, but she will not be a lazy dog..She will be fit just like her mother was..Thanks for the info though.

    Squeeeee! I love "wrinkle dogs."

Brachycephalic dogs do have issues with heat and exercise, but a Shar Pei isn't as extremely snub nosed as a Pug, Shih Tzu or Pekingese. Even my Peke has more of a snout than most, and is pretty active. He's not about to run a 5k with me, but he can hike 4 miles. (Providing it's not too hot out.)
  • You missed my point, It had nothing to do with being outside, just don't make her run. I have a boxer and she LOVES to run, but overheats really quickly. Just thought you would like to know.

Love dogs! Bigger dogs more so then little dogs. And yours is an absolute gem! ITs gonna be so hard to stay angry at that face when he/she starts chewing everything up.

Planning on getting myself a Doberman or Rottie soon.

I'm just concerned (if I read it right) that you are making the puppy run for 30 minutes? That's much too long. Even walking a puppy for 30 minutes would be too long.
