HELP!!!!!!

I just can't seem to get up the umph too exercise. I just don't seem too really have in want too do it. I know if I would I would loose but I just can't seem too get started. Anyone have any ideas..

How bad do you want this? That's the only thing you can ask yourself. If you want it you will do it. Try to find something you enjoy doing so it doesn't seem like work. Also set small goals for yourself.i do that and boy does it keep me going. I've lost a total of 32 pounds so far.... I don't always want to workout but I push myself and sometimes that I'll just do ten mins turns into a hour !! Also when you first start just do 30 mins and build up from there. Remember the only one stopping you is you. You can do it just set ur mind to it!!0

This is great advice! I completely agree. I was one of those people who dreaded exercise. Now my body craves it and I can't wait to do some kind of workout, even if it's only for 20-30 minutes. Half-way through my day, my muscles seem to be asking me if we will be getting to go to the gym. I love the feeling after a good well-rounded workout. I love knowing that I'm doing something good just for me!0 -
Once you get going it gets way easier to keep going. Find something you find fun and challenge yourself.0

Start slow - a few minutes at a time, then ramp up. I started by taking the stairs at work - 4 flights. My co-workers laugh and make excuses about how it won't help because it's not more then 20 mins. BALONY. After a few weeks of taking the stairs, I have more energy and started C25K. I plan to add weights (a few lbs while watching tv) in about 2 weeks.

Just try small things at first like parking further away from work or the store. Instead of sitting during my break, I walk around my work area. Take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator. Just move more during your day. It is a place to start. Good luck.0

Any coworker that laughs at such a thing aren't in the right frame of mind to say the least!! Those seemingly small extras make a HUGE difference! Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park far from the door to get a little longer walk, on a bathroom break walk down to the 1st floor & use that restroom then walk the stairs back up. Nobody will even notice the few extra minutes but your body will!!! YOU are on the right track!!!! KEEP IT UP!!!0 -
i just started MFP recently but prior to finding this great site i lost about 20 lbs, but that wasnt without great hardship.
my mind set when i first started losing weight was that anything is better than nothing. 10 minutes to walk around the block instead of 10 minutes on the couch is something.
you will eventually work yourself up. i found out the hard way that if you have unrealistic goals you won't be inclined to do anything at all. personally it made me feel like a failure before i even tried!
just move. then eventually you will feel more motivated to start regimenting it. and don't be discouraged!
for example, i work out approx 4 times a week at least. but in the beginning i was really down on myself. it all began because i set realistic goals - ie: i live on the 24th floor of a building. so i started using the 1 min i was in the elevator to do something like 25 squats ( i know, silly), but then once i got off the elevator i felt motivated to maybe go for a walk instead of parking on the couch.
if you start out with some stretches and on a cardio machine and can only do like 10-15 min, then that is a start. next time you will notice that you have the ability to push yourself to 20 min, then 25 and 30 min, then before you know it you're consistently doing a sick workout that makes you feel like a million bucks afterwards.

Echoing everyone else: start slow. parking at the end of a lot, walking up steps or escalator instead of taking an elevator. I just got serious about sticking to the MFP calorie tracking about 3 weeks ago, and just the other day found myself wanting to exercise. For now, just do a few little things and you will start to notice a rise in your energy as the days pass.0

If you aren't ready to workout a lot you could always take your ipod and go for a walk. For me, I do it in addition to working out. Walking is great!! You have that time to yourself and you can think... clear your head.
Then start up slowly with other workout programs. It does get easier. The longer you sit not doing anything, the harder it is to get into it.

I'm having a tough time getting started too! But get a buddy and that might help you get up and start! Also if there is a specific reason you want to loose weight than keep that in your mind as you go for a walk or.. even swim! My dad started to loose weight because he couldn't walk to the corner store without having to stop 3 or more times. which wasn't very far... so he started at less than a 1km and finished at being able to walk 24km a day. so it's just a little walk but it can go a long way. I know i have my health that i need to work on and as much as that sucks it motivates you. Even if health isn't something your worried about now it should be a priority. I hate exercise... but I do love the feeling when I am done.
I originally started by walking... initially 20 minutes every second day... I built it up over time. Then we got our dog 5 years ago, and if he doesnt get his walks, he sulks... so that kept me going... in time it became 1 hour every day..
As my fitness improved, and the weight started to move, I joined Curves... that was great.. it was a safe environment, so I didnt feel self concious, and you work against yourself... and the weight kept going... slowly, but it went.
Late last year, I joined a 'normal gym' I was hesitant at first, a bit embarrased about myself, but the amazing thing is, NO-ONE looks at you, they dont care, they all have their own issues/agendas/concerns. I now do my gym program 3 times a week, walk most days, and occasionally attend yoga, body balance and body pump... I still hate exercise, but it is important to me to be healthy and as I get older, more work is required to be healthy.
If anyone had told me 5 years ago I would be going to a gym, I would have laughed - and hard!!
Set yourself small short term goals... dont think I have to lose 20kgs, think of it as 5kgs blocks, and as you achieve each small target, reward yourself (not with food or drink) I had a manicure/pedicure after a 5kg loss, and a facial for 10Kgs... a massage for 15kgs etc.
Get up, and get started... you can do this.0 -

You have made the choice to live a healthier lifestyle. OUTSTANDING! However, you can make all the choices you want, but until you Act upon the surrounding choices, you do NOTHING. Act. Kick yourself in the butt and get moving. YOU CONTROL YOUR MOTIVATION. You either want it or you dont. As the saying goes...You can bring a horse to water...
CHOOSE that you WILL live a healthier lifestyle
ACT - get off your butt. Eat healthier. Exercise...20 minutes...not a lot of time, but get MOVING. Be BRUTALLY HONEST with youself and hold yourself accountable. If you dont, then you are doing it wrong.
You will SUCCEED.
THis is a lifestyle change. It doesnt mean ride yourself 100% of the time...it means BE AWARE 100% of the time.And with that, you will see the prevailing choices before you. Take Action.
