Hello everybody, I am curious to hear how much weight you all are losing per month on average, and how many calories you all are eating per day:-) I am trying to figure out some monthly goals for myself and I am so unsure about how many calories I should eat, can somebody who has had success help me with a calorie goal?
thanx alot

I lost 14lb in january (my first month) and then 5lb in february...not much to go on as it's only two months so I'll be interested to see what others say

(I started at 237lb by the way)

What are your stats? What goal did the site give you? Personally I think this site gives calorie goals far too low but what works for one person doesn't for another.

I found out that I lose better and generally feel better eating more. I eat my BMR worht of calories a day and than usually about 50-75% of my exercise calories (I enter less time than I actually do as I don't have a HRM at the moment and this site tends to overestimate calories burned). I do a ton of walking at work but don't count that.

You will get wildly varying numbers from people based on their age, gender, activity level, distance from goal. Too many variables to answer this succinctly.

Use the wizard here to set your goals and be reasonable on your weight loss per week goal and your activity level. This site does a good job of individualizing your numbers. Try the numbers for a month, adjust if necessary.

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.

I've averaged out at 1lb a month. I started on 174lbs in November 2010, hit a plateau mid-way through 2011 at 155lbs, gained almost half of that loss back trying to work out where I was going wrong, worked it out towards the end of last year and now I'm back down to 157.4lbs, so almost into new territory.

Of course, it's all individual. I net 1300 calories a day and burn anything from 0 to about 700, but everyone is different.

    In 3 weeks I've lost 8.8lbs. Hasn't been a month yet :) I eat low calories and low carbs and also workout for 60 mins a day (30DS and 40min 4mph walk) 5 days a week :)

Like some of the others I only started 1 January 2012 with 110lbs to lose. I lost lots of weight (water) at the start then it slowed to between 1-3lbs per week. MFP recommends that I eat 1560 cals to lose 1.5lbs/week and so I've been sticking roughly to this 'net' amount whilst aiming to eat back about 50% of my exercise cals (MFP is VERY generous on cals so I too knock a few minutes off my total before adding it to my diary). I try and do exercise for 30 mins/5 days a week although sometimes it doesn't rack up as many cals as MFP recommends because it's cardio (walking, dancing) and light callisthenics (crunches, press-ups).

I did originally try losing 2lbs/week but felt I had some hungry days and was in danger of binging after work so I re-set it to 1.5 and allowed myself a healthy snack in the afternoon which is working well. Ironically, I seem to lose 2-3lbs some weeks anyway! Others I may stay the same or lose 1lb, but it's all good!

It seems to be working steadily for now and I haven't felt hungry or head-achy like I have in previous diets so it's manageable long-term. The beauty is that MFP asks you if you'd like to recalculate your cals/goals when you've lost a significant amount of weight, so I'll reduce mine in line with their recommendations til I reach my goal.

Good luck with setting your goals - let us know how you get on!

Mine has been up and down started with just 3lb a month loss for first few months, (june, july, august) dropped wheat end of august 2011 so sept was a big loss (16lb - 7lb first week of low carb, no wheat), then I was managing to lose 5lb a month and joining the 5lb a month challenges for a couple of month (oct, nov) then Dec/Jan it slowed down to 2lb a month, 3lb feb, and not sure what March will be but only got about 5lb to go to original goal (133lbs: 9st 7)... so another 3lb would be good for this month as its a 5 week month!
