Eating When Bored

I'm entirely aware that I do this. All the time. It's hard to stop though. Anyone else do this, or have any tips on how to knock it off?

I really had a hard time with that too. I had to literally tell myself "you're not hungry, you're bored" while I was on the way to the fridge/cupboard.0

Yup, pretty much all you can do.
I'm currently unemployed and bored alllllllllllllll the time. You just have to have will power to tell yourself you aren't actually hungry0 -

I am doing it right now................put the crackers away0

I do it all the time! It's brutal! I find chewing gum helps a lot. Drinking water helps a lot! Find something to keep you busy.0

I tell myself that too, but then I think just how delicious that food in the cupboard is....0

I used to chew gum, but then realized the sugar in it made me hungry not long after.... I think the best thing to do i drink a glass of water and eat a celery stick. Or pick up the phone and call someone,0 -
I eat when I am bored to. It's terrible. I will have a great food day then totally screw it up with bored eating. I fight everyday to stop myself. I'm so tired of it and very much wanting to change (and lose some weight ) that I have changed my schedule. I go to the gym now at my prime munching time. I got through 2 days with success but today my boys have a different school start time so . . . I munched
I'm going to try water and gum next Wednesday to see if that helps.
Hang in there! Keep trying stuff until you find something that works.0 -
I like to have a cup of hot tea before I reach for a snack. It helps to have a variety of flavors. I sweeten it with Splenda.0

I try and spend some time on MFP. If I'm typing, I don't have a free hand for a packet of crisps :-)0

I eat a few veggie chips and drink water. I've noticed all I need to keep from boredom-eating is a glass of water to sip.0

I do it when im at home and not working so I always try and stay out of the house even on my days off i'll go to work which is a cafe but I will have lunch. I just munched before on bread and butter now i feel sick. I drink tea or coffee. not the best thing but i always have a different type of flavour0

When I first started my journey I would take a bath when bored. I am fortunate to have a hot tub so a soak sometimes. I find it almost impossible to eat doing those two things. Now I simply go for a walk.0

Juicy Fruit has some awesome dessert gums out. Apple Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Orange Creamsicle! They taste fairly close to the real deal - think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willy Wonka's full meal gum.
Whenever I feel "hungry", which is generally twenty to thirty minutes after a healthy meal, I pop in a stick.0 -

I would go for a walk, but where I live, the weather is not allowing. Walking my dog is a regular part of my routine, weather permitting.0 -
I do that too. And I bored A LOT at work. So I eat and eat and eat0

Same here. I try to drink a big old glass of water instead and then I'm not so hungry.0 -
Drink tea.
I drank about 14 cups the other day because I couldn't ride because of the rain, school was cancelled because my teacher was sick...I was beyond bored. So...cup after cup after cup. Works for me.
ETA: All my tea is decaffeinated.0 -
I'm definatly a boredom eater. Lately when I want to eat and it isn't mealtime I've been saying to myself "Okay, I'll go get a cup of tea and a muffin but I'll wait 20 minutes". Generally I start doing something else and forget or else I spend the 20 minutes talking myself out of it and don't end up eating. Doesn't always work but does 90% of the time:-)0

Try putting a sticky note on your pantry or fridge that says "Am I really hungry? or am I bored?" It might catch you before you delve into the snack mode. Hint you have to move it around after awhile since it will become part of the scenery in time!0

I'm also a tea drinker. Just an hour or so ago, I felt the need to snack coming on....
I am into the loose leaf teas lately and I have about 10 flavors now. When I need a little something something, I often go for the chocolate mint tea. Fruity teas often help too.0 -
Me toooo.
Especially when I'm up all hours of the night.
I grab a bottle of water & drink it first.
If I'm still hungry,
I'll pop a bag of popcorn or something.
A lot less calories than chomping away on a bag of chips.0 -
I remind myself that I'm trying to lose weight and I've put up a sticky note that has the allotted amount of proteins, fruits/veggies, and dairy that one is suppose to have (according to the health administration) on the fridge so that whenever I feel the urge for something I see that. I also grab a glass of water and drink it whenever I get a craving. Thought process is that if I drink till I don't want it anymore then I help my body flush itself out and I'm getting my needed water. One other thing I do is read when I'm bored or get cravings. If I get involved in a book I don't want to eat.0

I heard this great quote the other day: "don't give up what you want most, for what you want now" I repeat it to myself often.0

I'm not so much a bored eater but have to be doing something in addition to being on my laptop when I'm watching TV. I can ruin a perfectly good day in no time at all just because I'm not able to focus on any one thing. It's weird and I think I will try the water and sticky notes.
My weakness is peanuts in the shell. The only good thing about it is you can't just eat a handful at a time, you have to break them open. I often wake up feeling soooooo bloated because of all the salt but later that day I'll forget all about that and do it all over again...
I have no self control. :ohwell:0 -

Thanks, I really like that.
My mantra used to be "nothing tastes as good as thin feels."0 -

I stock up on food that takes time to prepare...
I wouldn't gorge myself on raw bacon, eggs, or vegetables for example
Snacks are fun but if they're impeding your weight loss, big meals are better0 -
This is my biggest challenge. Especially when doing homework.0
