I just came upon this site. I hope it will work for me. I have tried dieting all my life and I just get frusterated and quit. I was 335 lbs and using Herbalife and I lost 75lbs but it got too expensive.
Right now I am at 260lbs and would love to be between 150-175lbs. I need all the support that I can get. My husband wants me to lose weight but doesn't help me. We have 5 kids and he always gets them sweets and chips and all that kind of stuff. His excuse is that they are not on a diet. Thank you all for any support.

    Ruby,

Hang in there.....you have to do this for you!! My husband tries to be supportive, but thinks that he always needs to feed me and the kids...(chips, pop, popcorn, etc)

I was diagnosed with diabetes in February, so getting off the weight isn't much of a choice ... Today, I hit 20 lbs lost. I am pretty excited, but the last 3 weeks have been rough. I quit measuring food, planning, and consequently was eating too much, especially at dinner. I have gone back to the old weight watchers program, food pyramid, how ever you want to label it. I stick around 1200 calories a day....300 for breakfast, 300 for lunch, 400 for dinner and two 100 calorie snacks.

Exercise has been the hardest.....I am doing better this week, but working and having a family, I have every excuse in the book.

Hang in there.....there are a lot of web sites that will even help plan meals for the week. I have found them very helpful for new ideas and have found a lot of recipes I serve to the family and nobody feels like they are on a diet, we are focusing on livestyle changes and healthier eating. I am even watching the snacks for the kids....more fruit, grahmn crackers, veggies and dip, etc.

Good luck - YOU CAN DO THIS- - FOR YOU!!!!:flowerforyou:
  • Maybe something you can tell your husband when he buys all those foods is that they may not need a diet now, but if they keep eating foods like that, they might have to!! Just a thought...

He isn't doing them any favors by plying them with all those sweets! Candy and cookies are OK in moderation...not as an every day thing.
Pardon me if I'm being forward, but I think your husband may be "talking out of both sides of his mouth".
On one hand, he wants you to lose weight...but on the other hand, he brings in sweets/candy "for the kids" and when you approach him about it, he counters with "They aren't on a diet!" That sort of sounds like sabotage to me.
Good luck with your weight loss, and I hope your husband can learn to make better lifestyle choices as well. Perhaps have him count his calories for a day or two so that he can see how much he really eats?
  • thank you all. it really helps to know that i am not alone out there. my husband has a tendency to contradict himself. i know deep down he loves me and wants this for me he just really sucks at showing it. he feels that i need to learn to control things even when the temptation is there. my kids do really well with eating the snacks in moderation. i make sure of that. it's just me. if i could just practice what i preach then i would be doing a lot better.
