Walking?

Hi Everyone

I recently found this article from the HuffingtonPost that talked about the value of walking in comparison to other more strenuous forms of exercise.

In your collective opinions, is there some validity to this claim? I mean, apart from the statistical numbers, which I'm always skeptical of, have you noticed a difference in your fitness and weight loss when starting an intensive walking regime?

I'm kind of in a transition period now, assessing whether or not I like my combination of swimming and tae kwon do, and am thinking that maybe some lighter cardio and lighter strength training would be more effective.

Anyway, thanks for your insight!

You can burn fat while walking, but it has to be a brisk (not leisurely) pace. It's all about what you "want" to do consistantly. I had a treadmill for years, but I got so sick of it. I switched to walking videos. Yes, I love to walk outdoors too, but in Illinois the weather doesn't always cooperate.

It seems to me that swimming & Tae Kwon Do are both ALL body exercise. So if you substituted walking, you're right about including some strength training to round it out.

I've been hemming and hawing, and shopping around for something that fits the bill better for me. This definitely seems like a good, moderate idea.
