5K RACE TIMES

I was wondering what your first 5k race time was (when you ran the entire 3.1 miles)? I am a new runner (not a really good one either) and I ran (the entire time) a 5k Saturday. My time was 36:28 and I was a little down because I felt like I should have made better time. I have had people tell me not to be down because this was my first time running an entire 5k and it was a good time. I was just wondering what your time was for your first 5k?

My first was 34:xx. Don't remember the seconds exactly. It's good you're not satisfied with that time. Use it to drive you.

My first 5K was probably 5 years ago and it was in 26 minutes, and some odd seconds, but I was running for a year to get to that point. I agree that you use your time as motivation to improve. Its an easy way to set a goal just to beat your time.

    Congrats on your first 5k.

Don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other runners, you are your only competition.

For the record I ran my first 5k in 2009 with a chip time of 39:08 and was ecstatic (my goal was to come in under 40 minutes) the following year I ran the same race in 26:46 and was disappointed as I wanted to run 25 min (but started too fast -big mistake! )

Just had to look it up...30:17 for my very first 5k in 2003.

I agree with striving to be faster than the last race. I am my biggest competition!

    Good luck to you!

I have walked/ran like 4 5k's in the past and my last one 2 years ago, I ran some and then power-walked in rotations and my time was 34 minutes. I was hoping to at least make it in 30 minutes since I would run the entire time. Oh well...I have plenty more coming up. Thanks everyone!

My first 5k run was in 34mins 28 and I had to walk some of that as I hadn't previously trained much. I now run them in around 28 minutes after 4 months of proper running 3/4 times a week. My fastest is 27mins 30 but I would like to be able to run one in around 26. I think you did really well and it's all about working on your time from here
