Weigh In

I'm sure there are tons of threads regarding this topic, but was just wondering what most people do. I know it's frowned upon, but I like to weigh in every day. I weigh myself when I first wake up. Sometime during the day or early evening (after I've had at least two meals or a meal and a snack) and then again before I go to bed. I take the average weight and put that in. I find that if I see the losses every day early on, it keeps me on track the first weeks, which is the hardest part. Then if I see two or three days in a row with some gain, I have to adjust the diet. I don't agree with the once a week approach, because you are demoralized if you have a bad week and it's too hard to reflect on what might have caused it. thoughts?

I know what you mean. I am addicted to weighing myself as well. And yes, more than once a day. But I only put the first morning weight in though. Cos i believe this is my true weight.
I have even tried taking the scales out of the bathroom and hiding them from myself (LOL), but I just dont have the will power to not weight myself.
I like to see the daily results, its what keeps me motivated!0 -
I did it last week because I liked to see how I was going and also just for interests sake to see if there were any trends for me. There was: first day I would lose, second day I would gain, but not as much back. The cycle then repeated itself. I had functions on for the two last saturdays and I did gain a lot more (in comparison) and not lose as much the following day. I still only put it on MFP once a week, to see the week as a whole for how I went. This keeps me encouraged when I have gone out. Even though I went out once each week, I still had an overall loss for the entire week. Which probably wouldn't have happened if I wasnt watching portion controll.
This week I only weighed myself on Monday (my MFP weigh-in day) and wednesday. I was going to weigh again this morning, but we had a black out and I use the wii fit to keep track. I had a big loss yesterday, so I am hoping I havent gained any back by tomorrow morning. (I forgot to mention, I also only weigh in the mornings)0 -
I weigh myself once in the morning each day. No other weighing throughout the day. And I log my weight on MFP once a week.
On weeks like this one, it's not nice seeing my weight go down each day and knowing I can't log it (particularly when I'm due to over-indulge on Saturday and my weekly weigh-ins are on Monday), but it means if my weight goes up one day I'm not having to put it into MFP and then lose it again a day or two later.0 -
In the beginning I only weighed myself once a week. I think to do anything more in the beginning can lead to anxieties and put folks off when they see the scales going up and down.
Now that I'm on a maintenance course to goal weight, I do tend to step on the scales most mornings. I log these weights for myself, but only log them on MFP once a week.
The main thing is not to get too hung up on the number on the scale. You're body is an amazing piece of kit and at times it can seem lighter or heavier without any real reason. Always take measurements: for men - neck, chest and waist (around your middle not necessarily where your trouser fit!) Women should also include hips. Seeing changes in these measurements is also a good indicator. :happy:0 -
There's significant research that implies people on weight loss program's achieve better results by weighing in daily over a long period. I weigh in everyday and generally fluctuate 1-2lbs depending on how much water I've had the day before, when I last worked out (particularly if I'm aching my weight will be slightly higher) and how late I ate the evening before. Provided the general trend is lower by the end of the week I'm happy and so far I havnt stalled. If you tend to get demotivated when your weight goes up overnight then I'd recommend weighing in weekly but everyone's different.0

While I'm the OP and I still will weigh myself every day, I just had something happen that has never happened to me while weighing in. I had lost 10 lbs in the first ten days of my diet. I weighed myself in the morning, the afternoon and both were the same. I weighed myself at midnight after a light dinner (about 600 calories). I had gained 3.5 lbs. Then I weighed myself this morning before breakfast and had gained another lb. I just weighed myself after lunch and I'm up another lb. How'd I gain 5lbs in one day without eating or drinking anything more or less than I have in the lats ten days?0

I just admitted to myself a couple of weeks ago that weighing every day is probably the best for me. I had a week where I stayed off the scale and thought I had done really well but had gained like 4 lbs at the weigh in. It threw me into a depression until a minor chocolate binge which paradoxically made me feel better. Ha. Anyway, I weigh every day now so that doesn't happen again.0
