Guilt Pizza

Had a bad day, my other half was super sweet and ordered dinner for me -- a veggie pizza. I didn't want to eat it, but I couldn't turn him down, so I did. And now I've just found out what eating half of it did to me -- 800 calories! I tried picking off the cheese, but I still feel horrible. I communicated this to him and of course he wasn't happy, because it sounded like I was rejecting his sweet gesture. Anybody else have stories like this? What do you do? And how do I get over how made I am about this stupid pizza, that made me go over my calories by 100?!

Just stop and relax! Food shouldn't be able to dictate your mood like this. Talk to him about how you feel and tell him how important losing this weight is to you. Say you need his support to change your diet for a little while but you appreciate his thought. If it's upset you why not dig out an old exercise DVD, and complete a few circuits. You went over by 100 cal, which can be burned off in 20 minutes, easy. Go out for a jog, or run up and down the stairs a few times. Don't let it make you feel guilty!0

Being over by 100, unless you're in maintenance, is still way under what it would take for you to gain weight.
You would have to be 100 calories over you maintenance amount, not your goal set by MFP, every day for over a month to even gain one pound.0 -
Thanks, sorry, I missed a punctuation mark.. the pizza made me go above my cals by 100%!!! Meaning, I should be at 1200 and I ended up at 2400!0

That is a bad eating day. It happens. You'd still have to do that 3 times to gain one pound. It's unrealistic to think you'll be good all the time.0 -
Then make up for it tomorrow! You can do it!0

And sometimes spike days are just what our bodies need. Put it behind you.0

No reason pizza should make you feel guilty. No reason you should have gone over that far, either, with veggie pizza ... unless you ate an entire pizza?
In any case, you go over one day, get on track tomorrow. Loss is a cumulative effect. Key word here is "relax."0 -

With some of that ^^
Double up on your exercise and put it behind you. Be grateful that your SO is a sweetie.
Do have a talk with your SO and communicate the changes you are making and that you'd love for sweet gestures to be about something other than food (flowers, a DVD date night, etc) so you can make these lifestyle changes. Also, make sure you aren't being too restrictive in your approach - healthy changes are great, but getting so scientific and restrictive that you can no longer enjoy your life (and it starts to impact your relationships) isn't good for you and will make this harder to maintain. Find balance in all things and you'll get where you want to be. Good luck!0 -
Did he force you to eat half the pizza? One slice wouldn't have killed you.0

The same thing happened to me this past weekend but it was meat lovers pan pizza and buffalo wings. I was so hungry that I ate 2 wings and 2 slices of pizza and then felt bad about it. I never mentioned it to my SO because I didn't want to make her feel bad.0

One day doesn't make a difference in your long term goals. Don't feel bad about indulging once in a while.0

my husband does "sweet " things like this for me all the time. He does not understand. But it is still sweet.0

And when your scale goes up 3 lbs. in the morning, remember that pizza has a lot of sodium and it's probably water retention. I lost a significant amount of weight a number of years ago, and every time I ate pizza the scale jumped about 5 lbs. I'd be careful for a couple of days, and the water weight would come right back off.0

One thing - according to what you've said, you were already 400 calories over for the day and then decided to eat half a pizza. I'm not saying that's a bad thing or that you should feel guilty about it. I just think it's important to recognize when you are making these choices. And if you still make the choice to eat the pizza, there's nothing wrong with that. One high-calorie day is not going to slow your weight loss at all. You just have to be conscious of what you're doing, so that it is just occasional and doesn't get to be every day.0

Yep, mine did the same thing to me last night. Horrible day at work, feeling like crap, and he made me a frozen chicken alfredo pizza with added veggie toppings he put on . Well, thanks for the effort~ I really mean it.....but , the 2 small pieces I ate cost me almost 700 calories. I had to exercise again last night just to get under my calorie goal~ after already doing 3 miles on the tread mill earlier that day. And he brought home Girl Scout Cookies. ??!! Thanks Hon!0

Sounds like a messed up day, not only did you have an 800 calorie pizza for dinner you were already 400 over your daily goal before dinner.
Tomorrow is a new day and a good opportunity to get back on track, it might be worth mentioning to your boyfriend that you want to eat healthy and if needed educate him in what this means.0 -
Yep, happened to me this weekend. My boyfriend took me out to dinner for my birthday. I ate it, enjoyed it and worked it off the next day. One bad day won't kill you.0

Did you or the pizza hurt anyone because you ate it? If not, then guilt is not necessary. You admittedly made a mistake in eating that much, but that's ok. You know better now.
In addition, don't feel guilty for accepting a gift of food. It was given to you out of love.0 -
My husband would not be bothered if he brought home pizza, and I didn't eat it. I do believe he'd smile and eat the whole thing himself, gleefully.0

That's what I'd do... But pizza is my nemesis!0 -
This may be beside the point, but I'm amazed that you got half a pizza for only 800 calories. That's some healthy pizza. I live in Chicago, my pizza clocks at 500 calories a slice (deep dish, of course).
2400 calories one day is not worth stressing about. Stress is worse for your health than those extra calories are.0 -
I totally understand where you are coming from! I have some pretty strong willpower, when I want to, but one thing I cannot resist are breve vanilla lattes. How much worse could you get, right?
My husband loves to bring me home something special after work once in awhile, and he totally beams when he gives me whatever it is! Lately it's been breve lattes, at least they are small, but still! (he thinks small means healthy :P)
He is so proud of himself, it's too cute, I think I enjoy that as much as the drink.
The way I see it, one bad-for-me splurge every 2 weeks isn't going to undo all the work I've done.
Just enjoy it.0 -
I'm actually losing weight more consistently by allowing myself big splurges like that once in awhile. Do a search for the Spike Diet here on the forums. It is actually a good aid to weight loss to have a big calorie day once a week.
Eating should not make you feel guilty and choosing not to eat food somebody brings should not hurt that other person's feelings. Way too many emotions attached to these issues, imho.

I overate tonight due to having an extremely exhausting week. I've been sleeping about 6 1/2 hours per night and working 12, plus handling basic household responsibilities. Thank goodness I hit the gym 3 times this week!
My guilt pizza tonight was from Domino's... PLUS parmesan bites PLUS some Cinnamon Stix.
But now of course I'm like 800 calories over my daily goal, and my body feels gross. I know that I'm an emotional/stress eater, but I've been doing much better lately now that I've been more mindful of my choices.
It's been a while since I binged this badly, but I guess the good news is that it actually makes me feel bad! Can't believe I used to eat like this all the time... I am a food addict in the slow process of recovery! Tomorrow- vegetables!!0 -
I seriously wouldn't feel guilty about it if I was you! Im sure everybody does it now and again. I think it's important to splurge a little once in a while otherwise you'd get bored with your diet. Thats MY personal view anyway0

I know what you mean - my gf baked chocolate cupcakes a couple of weeks back - back story to this is that she never bakes and this was her first go - so when she made them she was like - "do you want one?"
How can you possibly say no at that point. This is life and if someone does something nice for you then you have to balance their feelings against a few hundred calories.
If it's all the time it's a different thing, but yea 1200 cals over isn't ideal, but it's not life changing.
In fact , the fact that you were worried about it is a good sign I would say. When it's someone's bday and they're organising a curry night or something I stress for weeks about what I'm gonna do.0
