What percentage of weight should be water? Before I started ensuring that I was getting enough water, my Tanita scale frequently read about 53%. This morning it was 58% and 11% BF. I assume that is good, but no idea what normal is.

Biologically, humans are about 70% water, so says my biology prof. There is such a thing as ingesting too much water, however, so be careful. You don't want water poisoning as its name implies it can kill you as it throws the chemical balance in your body waaaayyy off.

I just bought a Tanita scale a few weeks ago, and the info that came with it said healthy water weight range for women was 45-60%, and for men it's 50-65%.

Thanks guys. Last Spring, I got analyzed on an InBody 230 machine, and my weight was roughly what it is now 207. Water % was 64.7%, Body Fat 11.7%. Skeletal muscle mass was high, close to 130% of normal. Of course my BMI and weight for my height (6'2") by themselves would say I'm 20 lbs overweight, but I am more concerened with bodyfat. I still would like to lose weight to run faster and reduce the wear and tear on my joints and soft tissues. My scale may be off on the water weight, though using the athlete setting, the bodyfat percentage was almost spot on, just a bit under to the analysis. And I've used a caliper to measure myself, also getting similar results, within .5%. I am going to see if I can get bodyfat analysis at the Y, just for comparison.
