Gluten Free Cake Recipes?

Hey everyone!
I am looking for a good Gluten Free cake recipe that doesn't taste like disappointment and children's tears. I would actually prefer something fruity and/or chocolatey instead.
I want to make a cake for some friends who have VERY generously been watching my dog for the last several weeks while I looked for a place to live that would allow me to have her (I discovered after 3 weeks of living with some friends that I, in fact, had an illegal beagle and had to get rid of her). One of them is a "glu-tard" as my gluten free friends refer to themselves as. So, I want to make something that EVERYONE can enjoy, which I know can be tricky when it's gluten free (I had a gluten free waffle once... I will never forget the taste... it was sadness incarnate).
So, MFP. Hit me with your best recipes!

gluten free is one of those things that can be a total pain to work with, but can result in delicious baked goods. First thing I would say is make sure that if you are baking for her that there is no chance of cross contamination (if she is celiac as opposed to following it for other health reasons),
What type of cake would you want to make? there is a myriad of recipes out there, also are there any other allergies?
I did a layer cake, top part chocolate bottom part vanilla for new years, I'll look for that recipe. Best part, used white rice flour and sugar mostly so it was not overly expensive. Did it with a buttercream frosting, and even though I was only one with celiac, all enjoyed. - would something like that work?0 -
I am "friends" with Gluten Free Carla on facebook and she has some really good cake recipes. I loved her carrot cake. I love when gluten free food tastes normal.0

Got2Believe: That sounds delicious!
I'm not horribly picky about the type of cake. I'm a decent cake maker. I've just never made anything gluten free, and I would hate to make something randomly from the internet only to discover it tastes terrible once I make it.0 -
