For those who hate math...

Some of us like all that mathematical gobbledigook about BMR, TDEE and such, but it occured to me that some people really probably just get turned off by it. I know I spent the better portion of my school years hearing circus music every time the math teacher opened her mouth.
So I wanted to describe another way to think about it. It's actually exactly the same thing you do with all the math, except it has no math.
Here's how it works:
To lose weight all you have to do is find that personal place - unique to YOU - where you are burning off more energy than you are eating. That's it, no magic spells, no fad diets, no pills or potions...
So you eat less and move more (we've all heard that phrase a million times, right?)
Eat less and move more,
BUT...
You might not be eating less enough, and you might not be moving more enough...
So once a month or so you've got to check. Jump on the scale, grab a tape measure, however you choose to measure success...
Scale didn't move? Fine... for the next month eat even less and move even more.
Then check to see what happened.
Rinse and repeat.
Eventually you'll find that space where you are eating less than you are burning off and (barring fluid retention or fairly rare medical conditions) the fat will start to go away.
That's it, that's all the math says, only without all those boring numbers.
Hope that helps someone out there!
(Before everyone dives in to assault me with talk of balancing, partitioning, energy densities and such, yes I understand there's much more to fine tuning a healthy diet than the above, but this post is aimed squarely at someone who wants to lose weight with the minimum of thought or fuss.)

Circus music...really?? I always heard the teacher from the Charlie Brown cartoons... "Wha wah wah" LOL!!
Anyway, yes the "eat less, move more" is good, but you also have to make sure that you're not each SO much less that it's not healthy. Also there are people out there that can take things to extremes; so yes it's definitely important to cut back on eating the bad things and eating more of the good things and exercising more is always a good thing. Just don't take it to the point where it's unhealthy. ;-)0 -
Did you post this for me??? Going to rinse and repeat and see what happens.0
