So I am going to an Anime Convention in November ^-^ Me and my best friend are going as a pair
We are going as Launch from Dragon ball. I am going as blonde version and her as blue haired. (normal yellow/green outfit)
This is her for those who don't know
Blue - her

Blonde - me

Problem though. She has VERY low self confidence. She is my height and about 25-30 lbs heavier. She wants to go as the above ^^ but notice how they are wearing very little clothing. She wants to lose weight, but I am not sure if she will stick with it. She tried it once and because of sodium and water retention the scale did not move for her and she gave up. She is going to give mfp another try though. I am not entirely sure what to do in this situation. Any tips? We have until November

Pick up a program like P90X2 or insanity and follow the meal plan. She can get absolutely cut by then if you follows their meal plan.0 -
Ah I did forget to mention :X She has had surgery last year on both her ankles. SHe cannot run or do much cardio besides low impact and swimming
Its the calorie part i think she will struggle with. Soda/frozen pizza.mac and cheese she has all the time with very little activity
I only lift - and I try to get her to come with me. We are starting some swimming classes offered at our rec center and climbing the rock wall. But I just don't know ways to keep her motivated. I did this with my brother and helped him lose about 15 pounds, but I talk much differently to him than my best friend0 -
I'm going to say what has been working for me getting back into a healthier diet after coming back from my 3 month stint abroad.
Short term PSMF (I used the Rapid Fat Loss Handbook and did it for January) followed be a transition to a more moderate diet. Heavy lifting and light to moderate cardio. I also do karate and will be doing rugby again once it gets warmer so I actually exercise quite a bit; not sure how feasible that is for her. Anyhow, the upfront loss from the initial diet is helping to motivate me and made the switch to the more moderate diet much easier.
My $0.020 -
Are you my twin? I did RFL in November actually and also play rugby
She is a black belt in karate xD
She has no problem getting in protein that is for sure. I swear she is a carnivore xD0 -
Fellow cosplayer here!
Keep her swimming and doing low impact for sure.
BUUUUT also if she is a fan of Japanese culture (and i am willing to bet she is) why not try getting her into making meals in a Bento box? It's built in portion control and a super fun hobby ti take up! It's a must have hobby Kawaii Otaku
Here's a great blog about bento: http://justbento.com/
Here's where I buy all of my Bento Boxes: http://www.jbox.com/category/819
Bento boxes inspired me to learn to cook and get off of my frozen meal habit, maybe it could help your friend too!0 -

Unless you're in the pack it doesn't count in my book.
The surgery sucks, that will make it tougher.
How much time do you spend with her? How much are you able to help with food cravings realistically? The problem is, if a person wants to eat junk, they will. How best to provide support is highly dependent on the person. As I said for me I need the upfront loss. I dropped 30 lbs in January which will keep me going when the lost numbers get smaller now that I'm on a more moderate diet. It also makes it feel like an increase in food rather than a restriction. You have to find what works for her.
Swimming is a great idea. November is kind of a long way off and I don't know what your finances are like but are you able to setup mini checkpoints to work towards? Signing up for races, other events to go to, etc etc might help to keep the motivation levels up?
As I'm sure you know, diet is the most important thing. If she's the type where exercise will help keep her on track then by all means, go and do what you can. At the end of the day you gotta find what motivates her to make the change.0 -

Well if her diet is bad, then the only thing to do is workout more to create a deficit. Swimming is good but definitely need to add weights and make it heavy. You could still do P90X and just substitute swimming on the cardio days.
BTW, I am a black belt in Tang Soo Doo.0 -

Hands down, best part of TSD in my opinion (and I doubt everyone did this) was having to do everything in southpaw first. My hooks are pretty vicious because of it.

You are awesome. Probably the only other girl who I know is into Dragon Ball Z.
There's a huge convention in L.A. this year that I want to go to.
I just have to think who to be >.<0 -
If I lived in America I would go with you Plushkitten! I love looking at online pics of amazing Cosplay
I would have to choose something Final Fantasy based however0 -
I don't know what anime is, or where people even see it. But the girls are cute.
I bought my penguinjamas for a comic con thing, but I never went.
So in my closet it sits........0 -
kiwiburger: anime is Japanese for cartoon basically.
Sunshine: if she has had ankle surgery can she do any lifting at all? Bro spec only?
I don't really think RFL is a good idea for a noob dieter. Just get her to stick to the basics of cal counting first, macros second & increasing activity where ever possible. Explain a little about water retention and weight fluctuations & hope that she has the drive to stick with it.
BTW dragonball z is awesome! GT wasn't as good IMO.0
