What qualifies as strength training?

Does this include push-ups, crunches, etc, in addition to lifting weights?

Yes, those are strength training. Any exercise used to build strength, size, etc. is included. You're limited though in body weight exercises to lifting/pushing your own body weight... at some point you might want to add in free weights. But a lot of people prefer body weight training. There's Convict Conditioning and You Are Your Own Gym... those are both body weight training programs.0

There's some semantics arguments about this out there. Some people will tell you that a lot of this stuff qualifies as "resistance training," but that "strength training" only applies to resistance workouts designed to make you stronger. This is splitting hairs, but isn't quite as silly as it might seem at first glance. There are a lot of people out there wasting a lot of time moving weights around that aren't making them any stronger, and it's possible that is why some purists make that distinction.0
