I've been sticking pretty close to the wheat belly diet for nearly 3 weeks now. I feel great, lots of energy, no cravings whatsoever etc... but I stopped losing weight. I haven't changed my excercise nor my calorie intake...
I was thinking of having a cheat meal tonight, but I'm not sure... does anybody have thoughts?
*edit: well, I'm sure most of you have 'thoughts', but does anybody have thoughts about THIS?

I'm not doing the wheat belly diet per se, but I am currently not eating wheat or other grains. I just feel better when I do low carb. I don't think that removing wheat is a magic bullet to weight loss, even though he makes it seem that way in the book. You have to take an overall look at your diet. If you're still eating more calories then burning then you'll gain. Eat less, you'll lose. Change your calorie intake for a few weeks and see what happens.0

Someone just suggested this book to me and I'm curious how it's going.
Is it a revamped Adkins diet? Is there more to it?

It's not Atkins because on the WB diet you eliminate all grains. On Atkins you can have low carb breads and such, at least some people do. It's really about quality of the ingredients you are eating too. More of a focus on fresh foods. I think it's more in line with a paleo/primal approach.0 -

Interesting. That's another meal plan I've been researching too. Thanks!0 -

Atkins is more of a clean eating with "brown" grains.............still focused on Conventional Wisdom and a cleaned up version of the S.A.D.
Wheat Belly is more Paleo.0 -
Hey guys, I am in the middle of reading Wheat Belly.
I have often considered myself wheat intolerant, but have not been able to just give up the grains. It is a psychological as well as a physiological problem for me. As soon as Ive tried Atkins in the past, it triggers something mentally for me & I just want CARBS and nothing else.
But here I am, on my 2nd day of going wheat free. I feel pretty good so far. I haven't given up everything as of yet, I am mainly focusing on all bread, flour, crackers, breading,--- I have not been as stringent with sugar, as I did have some sweetener in my coffee, but nothing else with sugar/sweetener.
Tonight I have a birthday to go to, along with cake I plan to forgo.
Wish me luck people.0 -
hey! I'm one of the many folks on MFP eating wheat/grain/processed foods free. I do focus on fresh "real" foods and I do include both white rice or tubers as starch in my diet as well as liberal fats and proteins.
I can tell you as far as weight loss it was really helpful and helped me kick off the last 5 pounds. I wish i had found it earlier - LOL
Like one of the above posters commented, total calories will still be important and even though fats and proteins of all sources are great, do keep in mind the total calories consumed and worked off through exercise. Make sure they are accurate is what I'm saying.
so many folks guess on foods, make sure you are weighing foods and accounting as accurately as possible on the exercise calories.0 -
I bought a 5 lb bag of almond flour to use in my baking(for the little that I do) instead of just buying gluten free grains. So far I love it. I have made waffles and brownies with it. Almond flour is higher in cals and fats, but they are good fats and almonds are loaded with all kinds of good stuff. Plus it's higher in protein and lower in carbs than grain flours. I have been bookmarking recipes from all over the web.
I have been doing pretty good going without grains but for some reason on Friday I had such strong carb/sugar cravings. Most days I do well but then sometimes my body just wants what's bad for me. I do my best to get through it without stuffing my face.0 -
I've been doing grain-free since the first week in January and had about a month before the holidays that I was also doing it. Sometimes I lose weight in a week, sometimes I don't. I'm reading wheat belly right now and have been eating a fairly primal diet during this time.
The biggest thing for me is that my tummy is shrinking and my gut feels so much better. When I do eat wheat by accident (thinking something is wheat free and clearly isn't), I have gas and cramps, just like I used to get so often before going wheat free. i just thought this was normal digestion. I also feel like I have a hangover the next day and have trouble waking up.
I wake up easier now and have a lot of energy, when I was pretty convinced I just had some sort of chronic fatigue before.
If it makes you feel better, continue with it and eating clean and you will see your weight go down.0
