Heyy so i just started uni this year & i thought i would be able to keep my eating & exercise in order. But it's turned out the opposite, exercise is ohkay im always walking everywhere, going up stairs to get to classes (stairs are huge like 60 stairs in each set x2) but my eating is not good. I dont get to have breakfast in the morning (i try though, i get up earlier then normal but am still rushing around to get to uni in time) then just having 1 big meal around 400-600 cals (ususally fast food with friends) then coming home & being so tired that i dont eat dinner. (I do take nuts & fruit with me for snacks but with studying i dont often get time to eat) I feel so drained & i just dont know what to do.
(&& im at uni from 8am till 5pm, most days.)
Has anyone been in my situation? & is now doing better? im just so drained i dont know what to do.

I used to skip breakfast and eat out a lot. I made better decisions eventually though. I always eat breakfast now and always have a peanut butter sandwich on me when I'm out and about. I still go out and make unhealthy choices like going to Taco Bell where I order the $5 buck box (1,200+ calories) in hopes of winning a prize. Honestly, that's the only reason I buy it. The important thing is that I don't do it on a daily basis.0

lol. is the prize any good? thanks for your help.0

I'm in the final semester of my final year. Marketing, so lots of projects coming up.
My previous diet in college would be a hot chicken roll, with lots of mayo), regular trips to subway, some kind of chocolate bar, lots of energy drinks, etc. Stuff that just kept me going, stress relief, etc.
Now I'm 2 months into this new regime. Haven't touched a can of coke, have had a few trips to Subway but I've switched to wraps now, switched from chocolate to cereal bars or rice cakes. Lots of tea.
Exercise wise; not hugely different to how it used to be. I don't like the gym, so I do all my working out at home in the evening.0 -
Hi,
I go to Uni and I always have breakfast, even if I have to wake up at 5.30 (which I do, when classes start at 8.00).
I prepare my own lunch the day before and carry it in a bento (the japanese lunch box). I fill it, for examples, with some raw and cooked vegetables, tofu or seitan, chickpeas OR rice. It takes me about half an hour to prepare it, I eat it with chopsticks and it looks very colourful and cute.
I also always carry with me an apple, to eat as a snack (usually while I walk, because I never have time).
Try to bring your own food. :-)0 -

Thank you for the help good luck with your final semester!0 -
Pick stuff that you can eat with one hand. Also try to get in the habit of making a bunch of stuff on Sunday that you can eat throughout the week -- like make a bunch of sandwiches and wrap them up so all you have to do is grab one off the stack. If you're feeling unusually industrious, you can vary the fillings so it's a surprise each day (except the last of course)0

lol, i work on a sunday in a bakery so im often tired when i come home, but it is a good idea. i think i should try it.0 -
make food the night before maybe? or when you go to a fast food place just make a healthier option?0

I'm sure it's possible for you to *make* 5 minutes twice a day to have a morning snack and afternoon snack. If you've got fruit and nuts with you, you could even eat as you walk from class to class. Set an alarm if you need to, but just do it!
No matter how busy you are, it's not sensible to abuse and neglect your bodily needs. As you're finding, it just leads to tiredness and ineffeciency. You'll study much better if you have regular brief breaks!
As for dinner, again it might be an effort of will, but eat something! A couple of bits of toast, a low cal ready meal... food will give you energy.
Also, how's your sleep doing?0 -
I'm in a similar(ish) situation. I work full time and I'm studying at uni full time (off campus) do fitting in time for healthy eating and exercise is hard. What I did was make a schedule (which fits in uni, work, taekwondo, training my puppy and seeing friends/family) and I made myself stick to it no matter what. After a couple of weeks of early mornings and making myself get organised I now love that I can fit everything in. Feel free to message me if you need some suggestions - being in a slightly different situation it might not help but you never know.0

Yeah I'm at uni and in my first year or 2 did take the unhealthy options and eat out alot but now I either take my lunch with me (Made the night before) or pick the healthy option from the cafe. It's just about choosing the healthy stuff while your friends munch chips and burgers and never seem to gain weight.0

Exactly my problem, I can manage breakfasts but its the nights that kill me. Waayyy to much alcohol, then obviously followed up with a drunken cheesey chips session. Work hard all day to waste it on a night out haha. Too much fun to be that bothered about it tho, just live your life and do the best you can .0

I'm a final year law student - and I struggled to eat pretty much at all in my first year. It was a lot to take in and so many places to be and books/cases to read haha. I could literally live on freshly squeezed orange juice and two pieces of babybell cheese - a day! No breakfast, no lunch, no dinner... and then I'd eat out on the weekends to make up for it! I was tired constantly, but that's not too strange really looking back at it. It gets easier though, you get into how to handle it all and today I always make sure to eat breakfast, either at home, or I bring it with me, same for lunch - I just bring my own salads to uni. There are restaurants on campus but the food is not very healthy and stupidly expensive for what it is.
Just plan your time and plan ahead. If your friends all want to go out for food why not take them somewhere where you can all have something healthier? Don't let them drag you into eating things you know aren't good for you. Not on a daily basis!! Maybe suggest that you all bring your own lunch/dinner and have a little picnic in the library? That's what we do a lot.0 -

thanks for the help, im sleeping ohkay the same as before just not eating as much food, as before.0 -
I'm exactly the same. I'm at uni and on long days when you've got books, lab coats etc the last thing you want to take is a packed lunch so I end up skipping lunch or having a cereal bar. damn unis not having low calorie options!0

Thank you all so much for the help.
Im glad I wasnt the only one who felt like this.
I have started this week to make myself have breakfast even if it is just a bar or fruit. & take little breaks in between studying to eat something.
I guess the anxiety of going to uni also plays a part coz it is all brand new & i gotta adjust to it.......which will take time.
but hopefully next semester i'll have it all together.0 -
