Does drinking water make you loose weight?

I feel it does with me but my friend (a Doctor) thinks that it not. Any ideas? is it the more you drink the better or eight glass is enough? And are there specific times to drink, like around/during meals?

I suppose it fills you up a bit.

It fills you up, flushes out toxins and stops you retaining too much water.

So YES, it does help you lose weight. Also, zero calories compared to whatever calories would be in alternative drinks.

I just drink a certain amount each day, I don't think it matters what time I drink at. I always drink around a litre just after a workout though.

I doesn't help you lose in the clinical sense - it doesn't burn any calories or contribute to the mechanism of burning fat, but staying hydrated helps your other systems efficiently do the job of using the excess stored energy. Being dehydrated can cause tissues to hold onto water, so the scale might not reflect what's happening when you've actually lost fat - but water is temporary, you lose and replenish it constantly. So in a sense neither you nor your friend is wrong.
