feeling guilty about days off

I know that it's good for your body to rest and repair but I always feel so guilty when I take a day off of my regular routine. It's not even like I've sat on my rear all day doing nothing, I just didn't do my Ripped in 30 or jump on the treadmill. Anyone else as neurotic as me?

I fee the same way...today is my day off and I feel like I should have went to the gym or go do the Wii Fit, something!0

I feel the same! I usually do the 30 day shred and then spend about 2 hours at the gym everyday. So today I did the 30 day shred and then took my family swimming. I still get a workout in but it is not nearly as rigorous and it gives my body a break. (only problem is when I stop moving I feel the soreness)0

I completely know how you feel- I used to be exactly like that. That is, until I got horrible shin splints that will not go away for good. They are constantly returning to remind me. After getting injured I realized the need for a rest day. Also, when I took a few days off to attempt to heal my shin splints, I lost weight. Your body needs a day off just as much as it needs exercise.0

i am the same way too. i usually try to set one day a week but by dinner time, i just can't so i end up doing it. unless i'm really sore then i'll push myself to just rest but in 2 months that has happened only 2xs. so i work out every day...and its not like much only between 30-45mins.
*sigh* all or nothing right?0 -

i am exactly the same hunni, feel a bit addicted as most days i do 30DS and 1.5/ 2hr gym workouts so on days when i just do 30ds and the school walks (which is an hr in total but with a double buggy) i dont feel its enough and feel low and try to get in wii/ extra workouts/ walking etc. Never thought my body/ brain would be so trainned to wanting to workout.
I still have one day a week off, generally cope ok as I leave alot of jobs till then to take my mind off it and keep me busy!! x x
What can I say...... ''My name is Vicki and im a gymaholic!!'' ;-)0 -
Yeah be careful you need to learn to relax and chill out - you don;t wanna end up addicted to exercise instead of "bad" foods do you? You just need to be confident that you will do enough through the week to lose and take care of the calories. You will burn plenty of cals. anyway if you are quite active just doing daily stuff (clesaning, walking to shops/whatever).
Think of it this way - if you were ill or broke a leg or summat (and I hope you don't!) but you'd need to know how to manage the calories without hard exercise, so it's good to learn those habits too. 8)0 -
I USED to feel the same way...but now that Ive gotten into a routine with harder workouts, I really appreciate and value my days off!0

i only work out 3 days a week..........and never feel guilty for a second....0

I have been feeling guilty all day. Usually Fridays and Sundays are my days off. On saturdays I jog 4 miles but was not able to work in my schedule. So i've not exercised since thursday and its really getting to me. But i have really been careful with what i've ate all weekend. I will hit the gym extra hard tomorrow0

I don't like my rest days. But I am still plenty busy so that helps.0

I was also concerned about my Sundays off! I've been on MFP for about 10 weeks now & have been a little slow to see progress (8 lbs so far). I have done well w/ my eating habits & workout 6 days a week mixing up my cardio & strength training. I do wonder if my body really does NEED the day off?!?0
-
As long as I put all my effort into the 6 days a week I did work out, I never feel bad about taking a break! Though I still usually wind up playing on the Wii or something just cause I enjoy it, not for exercise.0

I agree with this but it's not even so much about knowing (or learning) how to manage the calories without the exercise although, honestly, I couldn't imagine trying to lose the weight on diet alone because I do love to eat. For me, it's more that I truly do love to work out and I just feel guilty when I take the day off. My brain needs that exercise release but I sometimes forget that my body needs the break.0 -
you dont have to completely take the day "off" if it really bothers you, you just need to take it easy. instead of running you can go for a nice long walk or a relaxing bike ride. this way you are still being active, but your muscles are not be strained0
