Hello everyone,

Well, I've really been slacking, but starting tomorrow I'm getting back to working out and eating right. Granted, I hadn't been feeling good and was dealing with some health issues, but I'm getting myself back on track.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice for low calorie, filling snacks. I have some ideas, but I just wondered what other people ate so I could switch it up somedays. I have low blood sugar, so I'd like to eat 4-5 small meals a day to keep me going.

I'm really hoping I can do this. I just don't feel...good. So that's what I am aiming for, no matter what weight!

  • Hi! My suggestion is clean eating. I myself have had a lot of health issues and never really have felt that great until I started eating really clean. You could always look at my food journal to see what I have been eating. One of my favorite snacks is celery with raw almond butter and raisins or a piece of ezekiel bread with 1/2 and avocado, 3 slices of tomato and a little salt and pepper.

I always forget about celery! Raw almond butter sounds like it would be delicious on it. Thank you for responding!
  • Sure! Any time!

almond butter (or chocolate peanut butter from whole foods) on eizekel toast...hard boiled eggs...protein shakes (sometimes I make pudding out of my protein shakes with a fat free pudding mix, so good!) ummm oh and i baked some turkey meat loaf muffins and also i bake my own protein bars that have lots of protein but very little sugar.

Eat foods that fill you up like yoghurts, muesli, oats, weet-bix and wholegrain foods.

Stay clear of white rice, white bread for the most part and go to TOWN on brown rice and wholemeal bread.- basically the less refined foods keep those nutritiousness in your foods :P

But more important than any of this is to remember that when you say 'i'm really hoping I can do this', you aren't asserting yourself enough! Hope has nothing to do with it! Take charge of it and do it.

Thanks! And I should add- I'm gluten free, so bread isn't an option since gluten free bread is...awful, lol. ;)

My son has hypoglycemia too. It is really tough. He usually eats every two hours or is mood and behaviour go down the tubes. The only meat he will eat is chicken so it makes it tricky. He likes eggs, devilled, scrambled with frozen veggies, garlic and some herb (different for variety) Hard boiled smashed with olive oil and salt and pepper or mayo this can be eaten with any raw or cooked veggies, hard boiled sliced and sprinkled with cajun seasoning, hard boiled with cooked veggies, garlic, basil, drizzle of olive oil, parmesan, romano, or asiago cheese and a squirt of lime juice.
Guacamole just straight or with veggies and usually some serious protein chicken or cheese
humous plate with raw veggies (carrots, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers) , olives, cheese(feta?)
Almonds are really good. I buy raw and roast them myself. 12 are 83 calories. Also blue diamond has flavoured almonds that are good. I like chill and lime.
I do whole organic yogurt (Olympic) and frozen blueberries. but If you have hypo then have that after a low carb high protein meal.
    Chicken salad
Salmon salad with avocado chunks! delicious. not low cal but great meal!
My son eats Food for Life Brown rice tortillas with lots of cheese for lunch with salsa. He seems ok with that amount of carbs if it has lots of cheese or cheese and chicken.
About 7 Mary's Rice Crackers with warmed goat cheese
slice of cheese wrapped around a pickle or sliced meat with veggies.

My son does better when he has protein every two hours and then the snack bulked out with veggies. He doesn't do well with sweet fruit but he does eat dark berries, blueberries, raspberries along with some heavy protein.

The family is starving! Time to go make dinner. I hope you feel better soon!
  • Not sure if you have explored this option or if it would work in your meal plan, but there are a lot of gluten free bakers in the vegan section on www.etsy.com who make things like bagels, breads, energy bars, granola, etc. They either have a whole shop of gluten free or will make them gluten free if you ask. Might taste better than the stuff off the shelf
