Sugar - oh how I love thee

I think sugar is my first addiction, caffeine is my second addiction
I don't see my disordered eating as an addiction I see it as self soothing mechanism, my body is not addicted to food although currently my body does have an addiction to sugar and caffeine.
My caffeine kick everyday is Mt Dew, I do not drink coffee. I have recently been able to cut down to one, the first one in the morning is my favorite most important one (just like a cup of coffee for some people).
I just realized after recording my breakfast that I am consuming more sugar in my one Mt Dew then I should have all day
I start my day off with a 16oz can of mt dew and that alone has 62grams of sugar and my total intake for the whole day should be 38g....YIKES.
I started taking a Glutamine supplement two days ago, 500mg 4x a day, hope fully this will help me get my sugar addiction under control.

You are not the only one in this boat. I love my sweets, cake, cookies, chocolate, brownies etc. I like soda too but have given that up at least for now. I also love breads and pastas!!!! I guess my weakness is carbs.
I think that is great that you have cut back to 1 mountain dew a day!!! It is not easy. In time I am sure you will be able to give it up.0 -
Great article here

@ Derv, thanks for the article it's great, have you been successful at quitting sugar?0

Maybe you can work on finding a a substitute for the caffeine. I drink coffee. With cream and sugar. REAL cream and sugar. No fake crap for me. Caffeine is not a bad thing. It helps get your metabolism going for one thing. Good luck to you. :drinker: (coffee)0

Same here. I have almost entirely cut out soda (and now, some types make me a little sick if I drink the entire can), but I still go over my sugar every day... and it's usually not the sugar from fruits that is the main culprit.
I'm just really bad about sweets and if they aren't around I'm not too worried about whether or not I've had my sugar fix... It's just once I start I generally don't stop so easily.0 -
I think the only way to get rid of a sugar addiction is to avoid almost all sugars and grains for about two weeks, like phase one of South Beach or Atkins. On SB you can have beans during phase one so it's not real low carb. The idea is to prevent blood sugar swings that can cause cravings and hunger.0

For the most part yes, but this week I did have some 85% chocoolate. Until then I'd been "clean" for 6 week I think. I gave up sugar as part of my transition to paleo. There is a good article on the same site - how to go primal without trying too hard.0 -
same, I have so much suger, I am so grumpy if I don't have it x0

Guess again. An addiction to carbs, sugar included has me in it's grasps too. I know of a lot of people with the same monkey on their backs. I have been off sugar for about 15 years. on it for about a year or so and before that i was off it for about 12 years. It takes a few weeks when you first go off, but then you feel like a million. I didn't realise i was addacted to bread and pasta until someone told me to go off it for a while and see how i felt. I'm having a real hard time, i do eat oatmeal (old fashion) fla seed, and brown rice. some times patotes, but no wheat. you really have to read the ingredients. i try to stay away from prossed foods too. Not so good at that one either.
I did go through withdrals when i went off sugar, give it a few weeks. the grumpys will go away and then when you do have sugar you will not feel good at all. good luck.0
