A lot of people on this site who post before & after pics don't always share their story of how they lost the weight. Please feel free to share how you did & post pictures as well.

I wouldn't mind knowing that as well, whether it's a specific plan, just calorie counting, exercise, surgery, etc.0

I lost a lot of weight using D'Adamo's bloddtype diet but have stopped following it a while ago, I go to the gym 5 times a week and also go to yoga class once a week. For the food, I count the calories and that seems to work well for now. I have a trainer at the gym and I also see a nutritionist. I managed to lose about 25 pounds.0

In the beginning (and before MFP), I followed Body for Life, and lost most of my weight and managed to permanently change my lifestyle.
Nowadays I just eat a balanced diet and make sure to do serious strength training 3x/week.

pic 3 is after several months of calorie counting and getting down to pretty low body fat %

Calorie counting and working out.
What I eat and my workouts have changed as time has gone on, but it really is as easy as eat within your calories and eat sensably most of the time, and get off your butt0 -
Thanks for sharing! I thought about counting calories because it can be so time consuming to figure out the amount of calories when you're making a recipe that has a bunch of different ingredients.0

I don't post pics of myself on public web sites, but I lost weight by eating a balanced healthy diet by current medical recommendations (plenty of vegetables, fruit, whole grains and lean protein) and exercise. I also drink wine most days. The only diet changes I made to lose weight was to watch how much wine I drink a little more carefully. Exercise was the key for weight loss for me.0

I have just done the calorie counting and exercise. I have also improved the quality of some of my food choices, but I haven't given up some of the 'crap' that I love. LOL I just enjoy it in smaller portions than I did before MFP. It's simple but it works. Thanks for sharing! Are you aware of the 'Recipe' feature here on MFP? You can add all of your ingredients, name the recipe, and then tell the site how many servings it makes and it will calculate the nutritional info per serving for you, then you can easily add your recipe to your food diary. If you have some recipes that you make fairly frequently, it saves time since you can use that same programmed info easily w/o having to enter every little thing all over again. :-)0 -
I'm not following a plan (like Weight Watchers, etc.). I simply decided to eat less, and along with that, what I did eat, was a better choice (grilled chicken vs. KFC, etc.) I also started exercising for at least 45 minutes a day. Since Sept. of '11 I've lost 41 lb.
I finally can say that I'm in the "normal range" for BMI (I spent a lot of time in the "obese" category having been 185 or more for a few years at 5'4") and my own goals have me set at losing another 14 lb to put me at 130. That's my "evaluate do I need further weight loss or now focus on toning/maintaining" goal weight.0 -

Do you have a smartphone? I find it easier to just take my phone in the kitchen and build the recipe as I am prepping the recipe.0 -

I got a few low calorie cook books and I have found that most recipes are in the MFP database. Also if you keep your meals simple it is easier. When I don't use a recipe I will do something like fish or chicken, and veggies and salad then it's easy.0 -
No, I wasn't aware of that feature. Thank You! And nope no smart phone0

For me it has been many different combinations a few years ago I joined MFP only to leave and not come back until this past December, the reason for leaving I just was not interested in logging in the information and had no friends that seemed to want to help me out. So I took matters into my own hands like always I started walking and running 6 miles almost every day then I lost interests now during this time I was still eating just about everything I wanted to I was losing weight but not quick enough to even notice.
Now let me go back a few years to 2004-2005 I was an avider walker I delivered news papers 7 days a week with my oldest son and I felt fine and fit, however my husband and I made a bet that we would both go in for a physical to see who was more fit and healthy for he didn’t do any exercise at all. I at least did walk. Well we both came out of the doctor’s office he came out with a clean bill of health just needed to gain weight “GAIN WEIGHT” He has the metabolism of a teenager.
Now moving on to me I went in to be told that I needed to lose weight watch what I eat and start exercising more or I was going to be put on medication for my cholesterol Now during this time going in and out of the doctors’ offices in the past 8 years not a single doctor told me to stop smoking but one liver specialist who “SCREAMED” at me oh yes that just make me want to quit smoking.
Fast forward to 2011 I started doing research was tired of being overweight and working out and not seeing any results. So I read that smoking ruins your cholesterol levels so I quiet cold turkey. Then come June 2011 I kept passing this store so I called the number to see what it was all about and went in and visited with the people who worked there. Now mind you I have tried other diet plans and vitamins and so on nothing worked and most of them made me feel worse rather than better. So when I found this place and tried the Herbalife product I was hooked I am taking less vitamins now then when I was on my full time cholesterol medication along with all the over the counter stuff that they told me to get.
I am pleased to say I love the Herbalife product it has helped me regain control of my life again and not only am I losing/maintaining my weight I have more energy my cholesterol is down I can work out 7 days a week and my migraine headaches are not as frequent as they were before I stared the Herbalife product. I am happy with my results.0 -
From December 2010 to June 2011, I followed MFP's guidelines for nutrition and calories (eating exercise calories), using running (starting with C25K) and the video game EA Sports Active 2 with 5 pound dumbbells for exercise.
From June 2011 to October 2011, I increased my protein recommendations on here to get a minimum of 100g a day, but I stopped logging my food on weekends and just sort of played it by ear. Still running, tapered back on the EASA2, and added strength training with heavy weights in July.
From October to present, I've been on maintenance. Still running, still strength training. Sometimes do EASA2. Logging most of the time, but not obsessively. Not caring what the scale says and going more by how clothes fit and how I look in photos, since I'm hyper-critical when I look in the mirror and can be more objective when looking at photos.0 -
I don't have any pics (should have gotten some before pics) but I've tried a few things. As far as diet goes, for about 10 months I've just been watching my calories and making small changes here and there. For exercise, I've done 30 Day Shred, Ripped in 30 and then 6 Week 6 Pack all in a row. My calves were perfect. Toned and shapely and I loved wearing capris to show them off. After 6 Week 6 Pack I could definitely tell my abs were much stronger. I still had a little padding covering them but they were coming along nicely. I've been down 10 and back up 5. Mostly because I got lazy in from the end of October through December. I had been rollerblading but I broke my tailbone and stopped exercising altogether. At first it was because it hurt, then I just didn't feel like it.
I'm back on my rollerblades so I've regained most of my lost ground. I've sort of fallen off the wagon for my diet for the past month and I seem to be stuck. As of today, I'm on Day 1 Cycle 1 of the 17 day diet. I miss my carbs but I'm not hungry. I don't know if I'll stick with it the whole way through (3 cycles, 51 days) but I'm going to try. I just need to get the scale moving again.0 -
I'm not really on any program. I track my calories everyday. I aim for a 500 to 750 calorie deficit each day (after exercise). When I started out, I was eating around 1800-1900 and now I eat about 1500-1600. I exercise 5-7 days per week. I started out with exercise bike and then started doing workout DVDs. I do lots of Jillian workouts, but I also like Tae Bo and Kickbox Bootcamp (it's streaming on Netflix!). I usually exercise 200-300 minutes per week.
Good luck!0 -
