How much is too much?

This is a bit of an odd one, especially when I read posts from people who are stuck looking at the same weight on the scale day after day.
I haven't been doing anything extreme, but I'm losing weight rapidly - 16lb in less than 5 weeks. Many posts suggest .5 or 1lb per week as a healthy goal.
Obviously I'm glad to be getting slimmer, but seeing as I'm making no real effort I don't understand what's caused the change, and I'm a shade concerned about where it's going to stabilise - it's not that a couple more stone would hurt, ho,ho, but I don't really feel in control.
Any thoughts, anyone?

I would keep an eye on it... and if it continues I would mention it to your doctor. Sudden rapid weight loss isn't something that should be ignored, especially if you aren't doing anything to achieve it.
Alternatively - you may have broken scales!!

Since you ony had 28lbs to lose to start with, I'd say 3lbs/week is a bit much. What are you doing to cause that? I cant' see your diaries. Are you eating healthy and exercising or just going about your normal routine?
I see in your profile that your brother had bowel cancer. With that noted, If you really aren't doing anything to cause the weight loss, I'd go get checked out.0 -
It depends on a lot of factors...
1 - how heavy are you...
2 - have you changed your diet and exercise program...
people who are overweight and really clean up thier eating and drinking (i.e. cutting out sodas and increaseing water) and pump up the exercise will have a period of time at the beginning where lbs may easily come off...I have a friend who decided to change up her diet and cut out processed foods/sugars/sodas and really pumped up her water and the first week she lost 6 lbs...because her body was detoxing all that crap she had been feeding it and all the good stuff she had been eating allowed her body to synthesize the nutrients better
If you weren't all that overweight and haven't radically changed your diet and exercise I agree with the PP to maybe see your Dr. as rapid weight loss is not all that good...
.5-1lb a week is recommended for long term goals...you don't want to drop weight by going on a special diet for X amount of time or eating to few calories just to loose weight...because chances are that weight will come back...slow and steady will usually win the race....0 -
I just don't feel like I'm doing anything different - same old dog walk every day. I still eat chocolate most days. Haven't been hungry. I weigh (now - according to the scales, which may well be broken - that did make me laugh) 193lb, and I'm 6' tall. I had a precautionary colonscopy 2 weeks ago, all clear.0
