My C25K NSV

I posted this on my blog and a good friend said I should post it here too so here goes:-
When I started my healthy regime last summer I saw the C25K programme and thought 'I'd like to give that a go'. Honestly, I was scared by the thought of me running, but I've turned my life around with weight loss, diet etc so why the hell can't I do it.
Fast forward to January this year. I've been exercising at home the whole time using the Wii and various fitness related 'games'. I now need a change in my programme and shift things up a gear so I decide to join a gym. On my first day there I ran 1.5km in 15 minutes and I was beside myself that I could run. These legs of mine have never been built for any kind of speed so I was amazed I could actually do more than a fast walk.
I had the C25K app on my iPod and looked through everything and decided to go straight to week 5 day 2, that first day I was so apprehensive but went for it. I'm sure it was walk for 5, run for 8, walk for 5, run for 8 and I couldn't manage that second 8 minutes. I was gutted, so I went back to day 1 on week 5 and did that, then repeated day 2 and this time I managed it.
At the end of week 5, there was a 20 minute run and I'll admit, I wasn't sure I could do it but again I managed it and was still breathing (all be it a bit harder) at the end of it. Week 6 was longer runs and each time I'd up my speed by 0.1kmh. Doesn't sound much but trust me my little legs go all out each time.
Week 7 and we're now up to 22 minute runs, I manage them each time as well as the speed increase. Week 8 and it's 28 minute runs but I go straight for 30 minute runs and once again, I can do that too.
Today, week 8, day 3 and it's supposed to be a 30 minute run. I'm determined (and those than know me know I do that well) to keep going until I hit that magic 5km. And I get there in 35 minutes.
I can't tell you how good that made me feel. Me, Rachel, the mother, friend, daughter, sister RAN 5km.
Now to get my time down to under 30 minutes and YES, I will do that too.
