I was talking with a coworker this morning who is trying to get in shape by diet and exercise, just like the rest of us. The topic of the gym came up and, myself, knowing he has a difficult time maintaining routines, asked if he had been keeping up with going to the gym regularly. He gave me the lamest excuse I have ever heard! "Well, if the weather would stop changing, I would get back to the gym..." WHAT?! I didn't interrogate him any further but come on! I guess some people will TRULY find ANY excuse to not go to the gym! What are some of the whoppers you guys have heard?

Replies

  • Have you seen that commercial about ditching the gym? Where the husband and wife are talking about excuses, and she says "I spoke with my mother" and he replies "Oh, that's a day in itself" I feel the same way at times!!

I can't talk - I've actually gotten to the gym and turned right around and left because my mp3 player was out of power.

That's why I'm slowly building up a home gym - no excuses!

I used to go to the gym 2 years ago lol. It was only once a week, but after a while I felt it was boring and I felt like I had to force myself to go and spend more time than some other people just so I didn't look like I couldn't handle it.

My parents have the car most of the day, there is a train nearby, but having to take the train every time would make my bank account scream, on top of that I would have to pay for a gym subscription which could cost a reasonable amount.

I know it's not just about trying to get in shape, build muscle and such, it's also a place to feel like you're being social. I don't feel I would have the confidence to go to the gym day in day out and such. I've never had that much confidence and it's quite stupid when other people think about it, but I've had trouble with being social throughout my whole life...

Anyway, I enjoy fresh air, the wind blowing and the sun shining down on my skin :D
I cycle a few times a week and I see several people walking, jogging and even cycling in places I cycle around. You say "Hi" and have there dogs chasing after your bike >.<

It's stupid making excuses to do something, but I'm pretty sure everyone makes an excuse to get out of situations regardless of the situation lol. I've done it a lot just to stay within my comfort zone, but I am trying and I do feel I am getting a little better.

I'm guilty of this as well :ohwell: But now I am always prepared. And to OP about the weather comment, now that it's getting to be nice weather it's so hard to me to decide if I'm going to go to the gym or do something outside with my kids (they always want to go to the park) but since daylight savings is next week we'll have an extra hour. YAY!

LOL I can definitely understand that! In my case, he was using it as an excuse to do no exercise at all!

I'm a gym junkie... and a DVD fiend so I never have an excuse to not workout.

BUT recently I've been sorta seeing a trainer at my gym: love: so occasionally I opt for an easier cardio DVD instead of a heavy lift because "I don't want him to think I'm clingy."

Hilarious excuse. Flimsy. But at least it's original. lol
