Counting fruits/veggies?

I'm a former Weight Watchers member and on their plan most fruits/veggies were zero points. I love this site and try to use it to it's fullest resource so my question to anyone is: Is it a bad idea not to count my calories for fruits/veggies? I haven't been because I figure they are healthy, I don't eat a ton in one sitting, and it's better than grabbing something unhealthy and counting calories for it. Thoughts?

I still count any that I eat. They still have calories and that is what is important. If I didn't count the calories from my all fruit smoother a day or two ago, that would have been over 100 calories not accounted for. It will add up over time.

Well, I am of the opinion that anything consumed is counted. That gives me the most accurate reading possible and not just for caloric reading, but also for other things such as sugar, sodium, etcetera. Though nobody ever got fat chowing down on spinach, they still have calories and should be honestly counted.

If you are using WW, don't count em. If you are going to use MFP, you gotta count em. That's how the plan works.

Some you could get away with not counting. Tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce, celery. But all things being equal. If you have one apple, one orange and one banana a day and didn't count them, you'd gain a pound in a week to a week and a half.

definitely count them. i can eat several hundreds of calories in veggies a day. it all adds up. ive had friends that only would eat fruits and veggies but they couldnt lose weight. it comes down to calories in vs calories out. sure, they are healthy but if you eat 2500 calories worth of them and only burn 2000 throughout your day...well, you gain weight.

Count them. A calorie is a calorie, although some are much, much more beneficial than others. Filling up your food diary with vegetables and fruit should be a wonderful sight to see, not a bad one.

I like to think of all of my healthy foods as quotas that I have to eat everyday.

    Veg- 3/4
    Fruit- 2/3
    Carbs- 1/2
    Protein- 3

I still count my calories but I've noticed when I focus on reaching a quota I feel less deprived like I can't have certain foods. Works for me. :flowerforyou:

If you bite it ... you write it.

The only thing I don't count is the Miralax I take.

You should count it for sure. every bit adds up. But think about it, if you eat a bowl of fruit salad for breakfast it can over 200 calories, depending on whats in it. thats 200 calories that you dont want to forget about.
I dont believe that all calories are created equal. If you go over because you had 3 apples its probably not as bad as if you had a bowl of ice cream. but it still counts

As a former WW member myself, I say COUNT ALL CALORIES! When they switched the plan over to not count fruits as points, I actually gained weight. Just because a food is healthy does not mean it can't make you go over your calorie count for the day. The only freebie is pure water.

I was really shocked how many calories are in most salads, even without dressing. The croutons and cheese are stealth calories, and you feel virtuous eating salad in quart size portions.

even though they are low i still count them - if anything its nice to see you're hitting your fibre goal.

I count all fruit. Veggies, it depends. I usually track a serving of plain veggies but if I eat more than a serving I don't add it. If they have added oil/cheese etc then they must be added. Fruit I could gain weight on but not plain veggies.

Count everything. I had a huge disagreement recently with a family member about this issue. If it's calories it counts. And it works.
