Women getting BULKY lifting weights... HELP

I am having an argument with a fitness guru friend.
She feels that women get bulky lifting weights. I currently lift heavier than she does, and I'm a wimp.
( Needless to say, she's not losing, not getting toned, etc)
I'd love some links to show her exactly what to do, what works etc.
( She eats mostly processed, lifts light for lots of reps, and claims her " body type " makes her bulky when lifting heavy )

I felt the same way as your friend, only lifting Barbie weights, afraid of getting bulky, etc.
I read this article on this amazing girl and it will DEFINITELY encourage her to lift heavy!!

The heavier I lift, the smaller I get: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/LorinaLynn/view/i-don-t-want-to-be-bulky-2212940

Just ignore her and let your results speak for themselves. And she doesn't sound like much of a fitness guru ;-)0

This is what happened when I tried as hard as I could to "get bulky" and yes, I do build muscle a little easier than a lot of women.

But the hips in that before picture! God dayumn!0 -
She doesn't need to train any specific way, she can just train the same way as men and she still won't get bulky (obviously the weight differs and is suited to her) but the rep range needn't change. Heavy weights & lower reps FTW!! :drinker:
I think I gain muscle quite easily for a woman as well, still not bulky! The only thing that made me bulky was fat..
Sorry, I don't have any science stuff or facts at hand to show you, just thought I'd share personal experience (I know several other women who also lift heavy and haven't got bulky, so it's not just me) plus there's plenty of evidence if you have a good search - and other people have posted links I notice.0 -
I build muscle pretty easy and I can't get bulky, no matter how hard I try. I looked bigger when I had more fat on top of the muscle but once the fat started disappearing I definitely wasn't bulky.0

Pretty simple...those with experience are never at the mercy of those with an opinion. I'd think the fact that you're losing weight and getting fit and she isn't is vindication enough.0

Women do too get bulky lifting weights..
If by bulky you mean SMEXY.0 -
Depends on body type read this...

Okay. Like how many big bulky women do you see walking around on a daily basis? I rarely if ever see any. I see big fat women. But it really is not as easy to build muscle as people seem to think0

How is she a fitness guru?
Don't worry about convincing her. Just do what works for you. Doesn't matter what she thinks.0 -

I have a personal trainer who absolutely backs me up on this. Soon, I will be sexy and fit, and that will be proof enough0 -
