This is completely random, but this dry minnesota winter has got my hair in a tizzy! My scalp is pretty dry (it's never been like this before) and my hair just doesn't have the shine & softness to it that it usually does.

Right now I'm using a moisturizing shampoo and a Dove deep conditioner every other day that's supposed to help, but it's been 3 weeks with no noticable difference.

What shampoos/condioners/treatments work for YOU?!?!?!?!?!
* I have naturally curly/wavy hair and it's pretty thick...

Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

I've been using Moroccan Argon oil shampoo and conditioner (and curling scrunching cream). It's really helped to hydrate my hair and make it really soft. I've seen it in several stores. Not sure if you have Harmon Discount near you, but I got a pack with a big bottle of shampoo, conditioner and deep treatment oil for $10, and the curling cream was like $6. It lasts quite a while and I've definitely seen an improvement.

I recently switched to J&J Baby Shampoo and have been using a Coconut Oil treatment before I wash my hair.
It looked and felt better to me, but it really must be working, as my friends who have not seen me for a while kept commenting that my hair looked so shiny, healthy, and had really grown a lot.
I just use the cheap Cococare Coconut Oil (got it at Walgreen's). I put the container on the floor register to heat it up so it is semi-liquid, put in on my scalp, and saturate my hair with it too. I wrap it in a twisty turban for as long as I can stand it, then shampoo as usual with the baby shampoo. Then I use Garnier's Sleek and Shine conditioner in the shower.
I also use John Frieda's Frizz-Ease spraying it on my rinsed hair before I blow dry.
It has certainly made a difference, all without breaking the bank!
Good luck finding what works for you!

eta: I finish up with a touch of Paul Mitchell's "The Conditioner"- just a small amount, rubbing it into the very end of the length of my hair. It's a leave in conditioner.

This stuff called Giovanni nutrafix reconstructor worked soooo well with my hair. My hair's naturally wavy and frizzy no matter WHAT I do, and it was so dry and crinkly before I used this since I blowdry to get it straight and under control. Leave it in for 10+ mins and your hair feels crazy soft, at least for me. :) I got mine at Ulta for about 10 bucks.

You can try not washing your hair every day and using a natural bristle brush on it. When mine starts getting that way (similar type of hair to yours) I wash it e/o day with shampoo and just rinse it and use a leave in spray conditioner the other days. Once a week (or more often if it is really bad) I dip my finger tips in EVOO (the good first cold press stuff) and massage my scalp with it. I work it in real good all over and then use the natural bristle brush to work it through to the ends. Sometimes a hair dryer on warm (not hot) and low blow setting will help work it to the ends and soak it in. I usually do the EVOO in the evening and leave it in overnight (throw a towel over your pillow) then wash it out the next day. It doesn't take much!

I use pure Coconut Oil. It works wonders in the Wisco winter weather!

I have thick curly and sometime frizzy hair. This past weekend I used coconut oil for the first time. I warmed it up a bit and massaged into my scalp. I put it up and left it for hours. After I washed I let it air dry. My has never been so been so soft and shiny and it really helped my dry scalp too. I'm using it again this weekend!

I know this may sound weird coming from a guy who currently buzz cuts his hair. But a few years back I had long(shoulder length) curly hair. In the summer it was a pain because it would get frizzy as well. Winters I didn't have much of an issue but I figured out the best way was to have leave in conditioner. I use one by Sauve I believe.. But it worked! Hope that helps.

I second the coconut oil (or olive oil, or castor oil). Works for me.

I use coconut oil maybe once a week - I coat my hair, pull it into a knot and let it soak for a few hours before washing it out. It makes my hands uber soft, too. hmmmm... i think I'll go do that now. :-)

I've been working out and sweating almost every single day, which adds up to way more washing than my dry hair can handle. What I've started doing is to just massage conditioner into my roots and rinse it out on most exercise days... I only shampoo like every fifth day or so. Also, I let my hair air-dry after my shower, with a leave-in conditioner.

That's the only thing that's been able to help my super dry hair!

Keep your shower water warm to cool, not hot. If you can stand it, finish with a cold burst to rinse your hair. If you do not use heat to style, the cold shot will keep your hair shinnier.

Are you eating enough? I see you are the end of your weight loss, congratulations! We tend to try to cut calories at the end, because it is so difficult and slow-going to lose that last few pounds. That is the worst time to do it, and the time when you will do the most damage.

Hair and nails and skin are the VISIBLE parts of our body that let us know things are out-of-whack. Make sure you have your loss-goal set at 1/2 pound per week, and you are eating every one of your exercise calories. Fats and Protein are exceptionally important now.

Are you taking fish oil??? Sometimes you have to start from the inside?
