I know it is bad to not consume enough calories, but I just lost a loved one and am not hungry. How bad is this going to effect me in the long run? I have heard if u arent hungry dont eat, so I havent been forcing myself. I dont feel dizzy, malnurished. Just heartbroken. Thanks

You'll rebound, just as you heal from your broken heart, your body will heal as well. Take what you need at this time.. you've got the rest of your life to work on you. Allow yourself grief and comfort however it comes so that you can release it.

I think you need to force yourself
  • I would say follow your regular routine. If you ate at 1130 for lunch but aren't feeling hungry even when lunch comes around, eat anyway knowing that is what you would be doing. Have your snacks at regular time and just try to keep pushing along. I know it's easier said than done when going through something so hard. I dont know how it will affect you in the longrun, I'm sure however it will affect you, you will be able to get back to where you were, just keep trying to stay where your at now :) xoxo

Don't stress, dear. Your appetite will return once your mind can focus less on the heartbreak. For now, eat what you can and take it one day at a time. Perhaps cooking your/your family's favorite meal would help stimulate your urge to eat? Even if you don't end up eating it, you'll be putting your mind back into the normal routine. Don't forget that you are loved by many...use their strength to help you cope! XOXO!

I had this problem before after a bad situation and it sucked badly. From resulting bad experience, stay away from a lot of alcohol too!

Maybe you could try eating many small, snack-type meals throughout the day? Some nuts, yogurt, fruit that your stomach wont be at all weighed down with. You still may be under your BMR, but could possibly reach it better than eating one big meal at one part of the day.

At any rate, sorry to hear about your loss.

    Good luck
