Im new today! Give tips please :)

Hey everyone!

So my doctor told me to try this out and see if it would help me lose so weight. Ive also had a weight issue all my life, even though I was active in sports like soccer since I was about 5. Which sucks cause I worked so hard.

Finally this past summer I found out that I had a Thyroid problem basically my whole life and it was slowing my metabolism down alot and making me gain alot of weight. Im taking medience now but its hard still losing the weight.

I was wondering if anyone else had a problem like that? And if anyone could give me great tips that would be super awesome!

    Hello! I just started here today so I'm also hoping to get any tips and inspiration to keep up with trying to get into shape the healthy way. Just like you, I am dealing with a thyroid problem. I had hyperthyroidism and lost 20 lbs but as soon as I was put on medication I started gaining it all back plus some. Good luck with your weight loss journey!

    I found out about my thyroid back in 2007 when I was at my highest weight. I've lost about 100lbs since then but battle to loose the last 30 or so I want to loose. You will start to learn to listen to your body and your doc should have you in every few months or at least every year to check TSH levels to make sure the meds are working. It effects so many things and as you adjust to being on the meds you will notice all of the changes. My eye sight is better, my temper is better and my joints don't hurt just to name a few plus sides.

    Other than the medication, did your doctor give you advice on what exercises you could do? What are you doing now? If you did soccer for that long, I'm sure most exercises should come easy to you :)

    I have had thyroid problems all my life, When I was younger I had a knot on neck that looked like a second adams apple. After my oldest daughter was born, I was sent to a specialist who advised me to have my thyroid removed. The biopsy showed that almost all my entire thyroid was full of cancer and "hot nodules" (sacks full of pure thyroxine). I went from eating like a teenage boy and never gaining weight to watching my diet because everything added weight. The doctors will need to continue to monitor your TSH levels for the rest of you life - mine blood work is only once a year now. Stay active, eat healthy and keep your doctor in the loop if your body isn't acting as it normally would. Too little or too much medicine will make you feel sluggish.

    I am hypothyroid and have been for the last 6 years. I take synthoid 50mcg and have managed to lose 75 pounds. It can be done through diet and exercise and a lot of persistance. You can do this!

    Hey there! I have Hypothyroidism and had it most of my life but didn't get medication until about 4 years ago. I have lost 84lbs in the past few years total and with the right attitude and life style change this is where its at! :0) Good luck on your journey and feel free to add me. I have 20-30 lbs left to go myself.

    Hi!

    I have been on for about 30 days now. MFP has really helped me become responsible for everything I am eating. I had problems before binging and eating late at night.

    My tips
    1. Keep a positive attitude about it. Everytime you log be proud of the good choices you are making. If you cheated, own it. And do better after that.

    2. Log everyday. Works best to log before or after that meal or snack so you don't forget and you don't cheat yourself.

    3. Try to get in a small workout everyday even if it is just walking. Also get a HRM. It will give you a truer measure of how many calories you are burning.

    4. Only keep positive people around you and don't share your success with everyone. Not everyone will be happy for you.

    5. Some nutritional info is not correct on all foods. Just be sure to check before you log a new item.

    I too am hypothyroid. It's taken quite a while to get my numbers right (almost 2 years!), they keep jumping around, but I seem to have made it. I joined MFP at the end of January and have managed to lose 10 lbs so far. I wouldn't beat yourself up about losing weight or killing yourself exercising until you get your numbers in check. Yes, eat right and exercise, but if you don't see the scale moving don't be discouraged. Also, don't try to lose it all too fast by regulating yourself to 1200 calories. It will ultimately make you feel terrible. I was on 1400 calories for over a month. I felt great, couldn't possibly imagine eating more (wasn't hungry) and lost 8 lbs. But then I started feeling weird, foggy, tired, weak. So I upped my calories to my bmr and woke up the next day feeling like a powerhouse who could take on anything. My body was fed up trying to do everything I was making it do on such little fuel. And the pounds have still been coming off. Mix up cardio and strength training. I lost inches when I started using weights, heavy weights. You just have to listen to your body. Give it the rest and fuel it needs.
