When are you "ready" for a bikini?

How does one know if they are "ready" to wear a bikini for summer time?

I am pretty much at my goal weight. I am not as toned as I want to be but I am getting there.

I have stretch marks on my stomach/hips/thighs from 2 pregnancies.

I am interesting in getting a bikini this year for summer but I dunno.....

Thoughts? Input? If you wear a bikini how did you know you were "ready"? It is all I wore pre-kids...but it has been pretty much 6 years since I have worn one.

I wouldn't worry about your stretch marks. I used to hate mine, but now I see them as a good thing coz they mean I have my children. If you have reached your target weight then well done you!! Go and treat yourself to a lovely bikini and enjoy yourself. You've worked hard to get your body, so enjoy it! xx

I have not worn a bikini since I was 19 and I'm now 38. Even when I was a size 10 I thought I wasn't good enough, but when I loook back at photos of myself back then, I regret not having the confidence coz I would have looked good in one, I just never knew it at the time. Don't make that mistake and miss your chance.

A bikini is my prize to myself when I reach my goal! I'm gonna buy my dream bikini and I don't care if it's £300, if it's 'the one' I'm gonna go buy it and wear it on the beach near where I live whenever I can :-)

When it's too hot for you to bear the idea of wearing a swimsuit?

Here is how I judge if I'd like an outfit - if I can go out in public and not be tugging on it all the time, or worrying how it looks, then it's good! But if you will be out worrying the whole time, throw on a one piece. You don't want to be at the beach worrying the whole time. If you have enough confidence to wear one out to the beach, you are ready! I would never have the confidence to wear one out and feel good about myself just because my stomach is so big, but if you feel like you could go out and not worry about it then you are soooo ready!

I would try one on....Take a picture...You know how you want to visualize yourself in that bikini...Thats what I did...I know I didnt want my stomach pushing the bottom over....and love handles again on the side.... Those were my goals of getting into a bikini...I continued to I got in it and worked dang hard too....

    You will know it...Try that!

I thought about trying one on, the problem is I would have to order online. The store selections here are AWFUL and they almost never have the proper sizes I need (much less styles/colors).

I am also worried people will think I have kids so I shouldn't be wearing bikinis.

I have always worn a bikini except when I swam competitively, I had to wear a race 1-piece for that. You are "ready" whenever you feel comfortable enough to wear it.

That's a great idea! I bought a bikini before moving, and although I have worn them for years, I often try it on to see how I'm doing. Right now I am getting into *read getting into haha* working out, and my before photos are in the bikini I try on :)

Good luck and don't worry about stretch marks too much. I have some around my hips, and I've never had kids nor been more than 30 pounds overweight ^^

I just reread and understood what you meant the second time around. So to address THAT, plenty of moms wear bikinis and there is no shame in that. We keep humanity going lol the least people can do is embrace us wearing a bikini.

People have a misperception that stretch marks=children. It is a very normal thing for a lot of people, don't worry about that, it is just common in women to have them after having kids, those who don't are lucky lol. I ordered a bikini offline of VS, I tried it on, I see my problem spots, it is a good thing to have to work towards looking good in, am I ready right now? No, not to me, but it really is what you are comfortable going out in, and more so working on a 'i dont care what others think' mentality. Rock it, youve worked hard, and deserve to wear what you want. As Ive said before, tell people to coddle the bottle if the image scars them that bad, I doubt it will :/, but if it does, there are liquor stores at every corner, Jack can help them with their problems while you enjoy working on your tan :glasses:

The only true objective way to know if you are ready for a bikini is to take a few pics, send them to me, and I will render a non-biased totally objective opinion.

    Don't thank me. That's what I'm here for. I'm just a giver.

    *eyeroll*

I rock my binikni all summer long, stretchmarks & that stupid pooch that'll never go away in all their glory, even on my "fat days" ... I spend 80% of my summer days in my bikini only, no coverup. Ready to me was a feeing, not a look. I feel good in it now, so IDC what others think/say. I still cringe sometimes when I see a picture someone took that I didn't "pose" for (those are always the ones your friends have to tag you on FB in...ugh!) but then I rememer, I earned this body - and I need to be proud of where it's been and where I'm taking it. My body, I'll dress it as I see fit. :flowerforyou:

Edited to add: I also went about 6 years postpartum before I wore a bikini again. And my stretchmarks from kids are similar to that of an attack from a small grizzly. Deep, dark, and run from my ribcage to my hip bones across my whole stomach (until I get my tan, that is, then they blend petty well)

Stretchmarks: Palmer's coca butter :D i know ALOT of people who used it throughout their whole pregnancy and after, and havent gotten one; even though theyre mom's had stretchmarks. Stretchmarks are supposed to run in your genes, i heard.

You're only ready when you feel comfortable enough. If not, then dont bother wasting money on a bikini your only going to wear once..did that 2 times before D:

Just because someone has kids doesn't mean they shouldn't wear a bikini! I say wear whatever YOU'RE comfortable in. There are so many different styles now that I'm sure you'll find something that looks great and feels great.

is totally a comfort thing...If someone is comfortable to rock a bikini then I say go for it whatever you look like. Me, personally...I dont know if I will ever get to the point where I would feel comfortable in a full out bikini...
