So I went running. Ran to my stables and back. I didn't run all the way, walked a bit, at a fast pace and just jogged the rest steady. Apparently it took me 29 mins each way and the length was 2.23 miles.
So my first ever outdoor run was 4.46 miles at an average of 13 mins per mile... I'm pretty chuffed with that How'd I do for a beginner?
And why was it SO much harder than on the elliptical (i think i run about double that in 45 mins in the gym without stopping!)

I know i am slower on gravel or mud (especially when it's wet) than i am on pavement.
i haven't done an elliptical in a few years, so i can't say much on how it compares.
I'm in week 3 of c25k, did 5k in 45 minutes today, including 5 minutes warmup and 10 minutes cooldown just walking. juggling the figures in my head, we're at a similar speed. for what that's worth0 -
Thanks. I'm thinking that when my fitness is up to running the whole way i should be able to do a mile in 10 mins, does this sound too far off?0

different road surfaces. gym equipment doesn't change but outside there's pebbles, potholes, bumps, etc.... Ypur body has to compensate for that. It can't predict what will happen to it like it can in the gym. Great run though. I am not a runner or a jogger quite yet I have to strengthen my ankles and knees first
Keep Up The Great Work0 -
I'm sure you can easily work your way up to a 10 minute mile! I am far from that but I am working on it Good job keep it up and I'm sure you will have your 10 in no time!0

yay thank you
Another thing - the app i am using to track my running says i burned 237 calories (each way there and back), yet i just read the average 130lb woman will burn closer to 180 calories per 30 mins jogging. So is my app wrong? Apparently 13 mins per mile is about 4.5mph.0 -
Does your app consider weight and height? I use runkeeper, which technically does, but compared to my HRM it's off by about 15%. But then my HRM is buggy and sometimes can't find a heartbeat, so I use the middle between what the two of them tell me...0

awesome job! keep it up. I too started jogging recently (notice I didn't say "running"). Did 2 miles straight without walking on Monday - 23 minutes. Today I did 4 miles in 50 minutes...2 miles straight (23 minutes), 0.25 miles walk (5 minutes), and the rest jogging. Had to stop between 1 - 2 minutes due to knee but sucked it up and did it. It feels amazing.0
